Does anyone here suffer from a panic or anxiety attack? And how do you cope and how do you feel?
I defeated a panic disorder and the only way I found to conquer it was to ignore my feelings of anxiety and panic by saying …"so what if I have a panic attack…I’ve had one before and got over it so there is nothing to fear…at first I was debilitated by it and couldn’t leave the house without my mother…I understand you are probably thinking mine wasn’t severe but it was VERY severe…you just have to overcome it…
To get over panic for the moment…try taking deep breaths and focusing on something like flowers or maybe a picture on the wall…focus and breath slowly…you should feel better soon.
thanks jukebox, had a tough day, it is only 3p here, Took prn and drinking calming drink, hopefully will not go thru a full on attack, I will try to stay distracted
I suffered with panic disorder as a child, teen and young adult.
My symptoms seemed to have disappeared during my 40s.
Those were awful years.
I suffered in my late 30s.
what did you go through @Vertigo? I can not rest, feel jittery and nervous
Did you ever have to go to the hospital?
It could be akathisia?
I experienced pure panic and terror!
Like I had to escape or runaway.
What is akathisia @Vertigo?
Not for panic disorder but I was enrolled in a drug study at Columbia University hospital as a kid.
and what helps with akathisia?
Feeling restless, anxious, like you can’t stop moving around.
Due to meds like APs.
Thanks @Vertigo. 151515
There are certain meds like cogentin etc…
that help.
Discuss with your doctor.
the forum used to trigger my panic attacks. I would post stuff and then freak out about it. I try not to post stuff that will trigger me as much anymore. also the more I post the less sensitive I am to this phenomena. what I would do is have a good soak in the shower and I bought some valerian tea to help me calm down.
I have PTSD. I have nightmares, flashbacks, panic attacks and high anxiety. I’m doing cbt to learn to cope with it. I also do squared breathing. For me, it’s a work in progress.
I take cogentin for akathesia.
I have GAD with panic attacks. Anxiety is my biggest cripple in life I think.
Pressure really helps. Anything heavy. I even sometimes get people to sit on/ lie on top of me.
I also eat frozen food when I’m feeling anxious, it helps me for some reason. I also like nice smelling things. This may sound stupid but when I’m really upset rocking myself is very self-soothing.
I also go on walks if I’m feeling anxious but okay enough to leave my house. I live in a small town so when I do go on walks I rarely see anyone else anyways.
I have GAD also, but its differ for me. I get attacks sometimes randomly, even when I don’t feel pressured to do some things. It depends what im doing, but mine kinda seems unpredictable. I rock myself sometimes also, never tried The “Being sit or laid on”. I don’t think it will help me. im 30 lb’s overweight, I think I will feel uncomfortable. I get different sympthoms, the common is trouble breathing, bit of dizziness, and sometimes pressure in my head. I have acid reflux sometimes also, so it could get pretty bad. I just try to stay in my room and take it easy as far as coping goes. try not to do anything strenuous mentally and physically.
I used to have panic attack symptoms a lot, I take 12mg Atenolol which got rid of them completely, propranolol gave me insomnia.
I think Atenolol is superior to Propranolol for panic attacks.
