Does anyone have a weighted blanket?

Do you find it helps with your anxiety?

I almost bought one at the store, but the cost made me think twice. I want to do some research first and maybe find something less expensive online.

I’ll try anything at this point. Although my instinct is that being weighed down might make me feel too warm and possibly even more anxious…

Any thoughts?

I saw them advertised at Safeway for $29.95 which is a really good price for one. I think @Pikasaur has one, if I’m remembering right, and it works well for her.

That is a good price! Especially if you’re not sure you’ll like it. The ones at Bed Bath and Beyond were $100-200.

I was just looking for one the other day and that’s the cheapest I saw. Amazon had some around $40 I think. But it might be a case of you get what you pay for.

That’s true. I wish I could do some kind of trial to see if I’ll like it. I’m looking at a website right now that has a few suggestions on how you could simulate the feel of a weighted blanket before you buy.

I think I may need one too.

I have like six blankets on my bed and my husband always complains of getting hot.

I just like the feel of the weight.

It may be time to invest in a weighted blanket for comfort’s sake.

You can make a weighted blanket at home easily. Take two pieces of fleece, line them up, and sew them together on the outsides. then buy a bunch of those little bags of dried beans/lentils at the store. Whatever is cheapest, the type makes no difference.

Mark how big one bag of lentils is, then sew lines into your fleece big enough to fit the bags. You’ll make tubes in the fabric. Then you cut open the top of the tubes and slide in however many bags of lentils you need to equal 10% of your body weight. When it’s time to wash the blanket, just take the bags out.

I used to do this all the time for the special needs school I worked at. If you’re pretty small, you can split the bags of lentils into ziploc bags so you can more evenly distribute the weight along the blanket.

If you want to get more advanced, instead of tubes you can sew like little pockets for the bags to go into. If you do that, remember to leave a lip at the top of each pouch to keep the bags from falling back out.

I got one for my partner several years ago and I absolutely HATE IT. It makes me feel trapped and sky rockets my anxiety. It really helps theirs, though. So 🤷 I don’t know. I thought I would love it, but it’s miserable. I can’t do it.

If you do end up getting one or making one will you post an update for us please? I’ve really been considering as well but again with the price of those things. I don’t think I will make one because of the OCD, I’ll likely spend too much or just as much trying to make it perfect and washable. I would be willing to invest in a store-bought one though.

I have a weighted chain blanket, and I love it.
Mine is only 7kg, any heavier and I kick if off at night for being too heavy.

I find it brings me great comfort and helps me lie still.

A good friend of mine on IG called Adaptive James makes really amazing weighted lap pads and sensory items. He’s autistic and what he does for the neurodivergence community is absolutely awesome.

I’ve often put on a comforter in the Summer for that sole reason.

I’m highly considering making my own. Just having the option to cover myself with it might calm me down when I get really antsy.
