Does anyone go to your doctor’s appointments with you?

When I worked at the doctors office I noticed that there a lot of people who go to the doctors in pairs, whether it’s a partner or parent or friend coming along.

I always go by myself, but it might be nice to have another person there, like an advocate or another pair of ears.

my mom used to go with me but ever since one doctor asked if she could step out so we can talk about things i may not be comfortable talking about in front of her. basically ever since she waits outside in the car during my apts

My mom has gone to doctor and therapy appointments with me in the past.

I wish she would sit with me during pdoc appointments and other day to day things— sometimes it feels like I could use an advocate.

I used to

My understanding of these meetings is not always aligned to what other people think

My wife tries to, but has been told I’ll tell her what she needs to know. She also still tries to go to my daughter’s appointments with her and has been told the same. I think it’s a “thing” on her side of the family. Things are set up so that if I go sideways my wife and daughter now have joint control over me if I somehow lose capacity. Then they can both know what my doctor says.

Yes, I can’t really go myself.

I either have my family take me or I take an Uber or a bus but I haven’t done that in ages.

I wish these days i could go with a lawyer to appointments. In the old days i was comfortable going myself, but these days, you can;t trust the psychiatrists.

My mum came to some of my doctors appointments. She sat in with me while I was having chemo too.

If its ever the other way around I’ll do the same for her.

I go by myself simply cuz there’s no other option. The only time that changes is sometimes i have a friend go with me when i have to go to the ER for a psych admit. It makes the waiting easier. But to doctor’s appointments i always go alone…all of my family lives 6000 miles away. But if i lived with them, they would be welcome to attend appointments.

No, hardly anyone does anything for me.

I’d rather no one come to my appointments. I mean the questions my doctor asks me would make a person think “What a nut!”

I go alone.

I’ve gone alone all the time. It’s fine now. It might have been a good idea to bring someone along in the past, but it never occured to me.
