Does anyone else have strong pressure in their head? Feels like my head is being squeezed and pulled.

Has anybody else experienced strong pressure in their head type of feeling? I’m recently getting diagnosed/finding the right medication, but it hasn’t gone away and it’s very burdensome.

Here’s some different ways I try to describe it:

  • feels like my head is being squeezed together
  • feels like an object is stuck in my head
  • feels like my head is going to explode
  • feels like I need to do these “squeezes” to relieve the pressure.

My psychosis feels very physiological with pain in my head. My PDOC just thinks it’s a headache, but it’s never went away. It feels like I’m being pulled into the ground and squeezed. I wish I could find something to help…

Hello. We can’t diagnose anything on here, but I would recommend going to a neurologist that specializes in migraines if you are having head pain that severe. There are a number of physiological causes for head pain, and the right doctor would know more about how to help you.

I think @Ninjastar is absolutely right. You need a neurologist to diagnosis whatever is causing your pain.

Your psychiatrist might be ignoring your concern because he/she may be interpreting your pain as a somatic delusion.

@Ninjastar @Vinegar hey I appreciate your guys replies. And you have a point, maybe a neurologist could help me.

I guess what i was trying to find out if this is a common occurrence in others with schizophrenia. I’ve searched through this forum and through Reddit searching things like “head pressure” or “head squeezed feeling” and I don’t think I’ve found a single person describe something similar, which obviously makes me think I’m experiencing something pretty uncommon.

Yeah, I think my previous PDOC before this one thinks it’s a somatic delusion. I have no clue what it is, all I know is that it just hurts a lot and I want the pressure to go away.

I actually think there was one post in this forum from somebody a long time ago, maybe 10 years ago describing head pressure. I’ll have to look more later to see if I can find it. But they never mentioned that they fixed it. Just dealing with it I guess.

Yeah, I don’t think what you are describing is common.

I hope you are able to get the help you need.

Yes I have this. I feel my bones clicking and my sinuses have pressure in them. I had a mri that came back clear. Risperdal is known to cause sinusitis

@PikaTchu I really appreciate your reply and insight. But could you clarify. I mentioned my pain is localized to just my head and it feels like head pressure and my head being squeezed.

I don’t have any pressure or issues with my sinuses or sinusitis.

Is your pain like mine in the head, or is it localized to sinus?

Also, I have never taken risperidone so it’s not from that for me.

My head pain is tied to my delusion. It’s like the delusion is so strong and unbreakable that it’s causing my head to brain to feel squeezed and it freaking sucksssssss lol. It honestly feels like if the head pressure went away, I wouldn’t care about the delusion. At least that’s what I can hope…

@Vinegar thanks I really appreciate your well wishes.

The sinuses are located in the skull. For me it feels like there’s something in my eyeball or skull. It feels like there’s something extra behind my eyes

@PikaTchu gotcha yeah that makes sense, you’re right the eyeballs are in the skull. So have you found anything to alleviate this? Is any of the AP’s making it a bit better?

I meant sinuses* yes , in the skull.

@PikaTchu is the pain/pressure also tied to your delusion(s)/schizophrenia? I never had this until I got sick with my delusion.

No I wanna try Claritin D but I have all kinds of things in my body preventing me from getting to the store and buying that

Yeah is tied to the delusions too

Dang, okay so you’re the 1st person who I’ve found who experiences this too. Hmmm I never thought about Claritin D, I’m going to look into that now.

I might try Cobenfy soon to see if it helps since it’s an entirely new mechanism, I’m just nervous about the side effects I am reading people experience: fast heart beat, nausea, stomach pain, etc.

I just hope it doesn’t cause sleep issues since I already struggle with sleep…

You tried Cobenfy yet?

I second this. @bob1 Have you had a brain MRI?

I only get this with two things, sensory overload and hallucination. I’ve seen neurologists and psychiatrists and am diagnosed with autism, sza, FND, PTSD. I dunno if this helps. Mine isn’t on going but episodic
