Everyone used to love America.
Lol ⦠this thread makes me laugh.
Iāll quote the beastie boys for my response to the opā¦
āI found a nice place to visit but a better place to rob.ā
Speak for yourself lol
For your own safety and health, stay away.
I mean it in good will.
( unless you consider a vacation at Adriatic sea)
Yes I love America. Weāre not perfect but what country is? And our news does sensationalize many things. But in everyday reality most people are down to earth and we have diversity in people and food as well as landscapes and weather. I love our freedom of speech. Maybe thatās why other"s think we hate because even on off days we can say what we think. Most people donāt really hate. Most people just try to have a decent life and take care of family and friends. Our mental health care where I live is really good too.
From state to state, county to county, city to city, itās all a mix of bad and adequate. You canāt throw all parts into a blender and expect someone to call that good. Gotta be less vague about what you like and dislike.
I dislike that itās difficult for people like me who arenāt willing to take time to research issues, to get to the bottom of things. News agencies and media are biased toward one issue or another. It started on one sie, but the pendulum has swung both ways in the time that has followed. Hyperbole seems to be the only thing that people will accept as true. Most people who are voting are in an echo chamber on either end of the political spectrum.
Plus we seem to have a lot more religious fanatics in this country than others. I donāt mind the religions that refrain from actively try to convert or bully non-believers(Judaism, Buddhists, and maybe some others), but the ones that do give all religion a bad name.
Donāt worry there are also fanatical Jews and Buddhists.
Well⦠at least thereās still the Satanists, who pop up everytime a christian wants to erect a religious monument on public property.
Thatās what i mean by news sensationalism. Iāve lived in America 57 years and never met a religious fanatic. Iāve met religious and non religious people and online they may be more opinionated but in real life no one has ever tried to convert me to either way of thinking.
One of my support workers tried to convert me at my dinner table to become a jehovah witness. She was new at the time do didnāt know the rules about being a support worker at this company. There was no malice there. I thought it was funny playing along with her.
I didnāt say we have that only in America. Youāre putting something into my words that wasnāt there. Learn to read.
There are worse and better places to live. A little more Socialism could do us a lot of good. Medicare for all would be great. Unfortunately the system of corruption in our politics feeds itself. The politicians that take money from the corporations, which allows them to be in office despite the fact they suck, arenāt going to vote to abolish that way of doing things.
I am American and I have been all over the world. Enjoyed visiting but I am Patriotic. I was happy to serve my country. I saw a lot of poverty and hardship in places in Africa and the Middle East. I also saw the most wealth in the Middle East so itās diverse. Most modernized countries were very similar to the US. But once I stayed in a hotel in Spain that didnāt have air conditioning. That kind of surprised me. It was on the beach and very hot.
One thing I learned living in Asia for three years is that I really like Asian women. They kind of grew on me the more time I spent there but I am already married to a white woman.
Maybe in the next life.
I grew up in America on the east coast, then moved out to California. Iāve visited Germany and Italy. Over all, I like America, but I also like Germany and Italy. Here is what I like/dislike about America.
I like:
The diversity,
The freedom,
The natural environment (i.e. parks, etc),
Democracy.
What I donāt like:
The intense interest in guns,
The hate groups,
Police violence,
Interest in wrecking our health care system,
The people and politics being so polarized at the moment,
The disregard for our environment,
The disrespect for human and animal life (humans are only worth the amount of money that they earn and animals are treated like meat factories in most cases).
You were replying to a comparison between the US and a Scandinavian country. I assumed you were continuing that comparison. Sorry for reading too much into your post. But still, Iāve heard Americans say many times that they have more rights than we have, because we are āsocialistā countries. That is a very ignorant thing to say, and Iām glad you know better than that.
Now I donāt want to offend anyone so please donāt take this personally. But I think America is absolutely terrible. Especially the frequency that POC are murdered in cold blood by the police.
Donāt take me wrong, Canada is also terrible in the way it treats its aboriginal people, but the statistics for death by cops in USA is nauseating. Not to mention, as any western country, it is quite corrupt and seems much more keen on brainwashing the masses for consumerism and big corporations.
If a big war comes, I would much rather be on the side of Russia or China, vs fighting for America. Of course I hope this doesnāt happen and I also am aware that Russia and China arenāt anywhere near perfect.
I just dislike the attitude a lot of Americans have about their country being number 1. America hasnāt been number 1 in anything in quite some time, other then maybe mass shootings and police brutality.
Again please I donāt want to argue with any patriots about this, itās just my point of view as someone who isnāt an American.
wow, that was great ! I agree one hundred percent.
Nawww, weāre just friends with benefits. .
This conversation seems to be getting peopleās feathers ruffled. May as well end on a semi-high note.
