Or is it that you just don’t have investment in the game of soccer in the U.S. ie attract the top stars. Because I do know how that feels, coz in Ireland, my country, we have little interest in irish soccer because our league id devoid of stars but we do follow the English league avidly.
There is only one sport, and its name is Football.
I love football. My whole family loves it as do most in my area. Check out this little bit of Pittsburgh Football history.
The greatest play in NFL history.
The original broadcast.
I thought football and soccer are the same thing? Just different name in different territory…?
American Football =
Soccer =
It’s just a joke guys.
Here’s a short video about American Football. It’s pretty cool.
Look like rugby, are they the same sport?
And your new avatar looks like one of the club’s logo?
Nope, Rugby and American Football are different, though more similar than Soccer.
My avatar is the logo for the Pittsburgh Steelers, the best of the American Football teams.
You might notice @anon40540444’s avatar, it’s that of the Baltimore Ravens, a team less skilled that ranks slightly above hot dog vendors but below the other teams in the game. They give it their best though.

I thought the Giants were the biggest team in American Football, that’s the impression in Ireland anyway. By the way, I’ll attempt to name as many American football teams as I can…
New York Giants
Dallas Cowboys
San Francisco 49ers
Chicago Bears
That’s all I can name, but they are big teams with big nmes from big touristy cities, so they would have a higher world profile. Are those the best teams in the league in the U.S. Actually those teams I mention would be teams that have a high profile. Like for example I have heard of the Pittsburgh Steelers but I would have struggled to mention them off the top of my head.
Truthfully, every team is a big team when compared to the lowly Ravens…
As a matter of interest, would I have been correct in naming those teams as the best in the U.S.
Best? They’re big teams, popular.
Football is by far the biggest sport in America. We are obsessed with that sport. With some guys football season it is the biggest thing in their lives. We love football. We live football. Football is gigantic to us.
My dad is a soccer fan. But he’s also a fan of American football too. I believe he follows the Liverpool team rather fanatically these days as he even now has a Liverpool scarf he wears around.
I have never had an interest in sports whatsoever myself.
“Many Cultural Traditions Are Metaphors for National Character : Behavior: Why do Americans cheer football and Spaniards hail matadors? Because they are powerful metaphors, a researcher says.”
…
‘The American metaphor? “American football,” says Gannon. “Aggressiveness and individuality. In the United States, the society is individualistic, and we focus on specialization. We try to learn something really well so we as an individual can do better than anyone we are competing with. Then there’s huddling: What we’re really good at here is getting together on a problem, working intensely and then scattering.”’

Never heard it mentioned on Star Trek, so it can’t be that important. ![]()

Muwahahaa! I love the Internet.
Totally awesome! I agree…It wasn’t mentioned in Starwars either… The Elves and Hobbits did not play it in Lord of the Rings… that means it’s definitely not important.
I live in U.S. and played a little soccer in school, never liked so called ‘football’ which makes no sense since the ball is rarely kicked but often thrown or handed off, unlike soccer where the foot actually contacts the ball most of the time so then would be the real 'football.."
But since its not mentioned in Star Trek, Star Wars, or LOTR, it is unimportant…
Also the aliens in X Files are against their kind playing games, though they were referring to baseball. That means baseball is also unimportant.
However, in Stargate SG1, the humans living on an alien planet are shown playing a form of soccer so soccer is important.
