I’m sorry to hear that. It must be hard to deal with because I know you have a family. Do you have trouble with emotions in general or is it just the connection you don’t feel?

Thank you for responding @disciple. I don’t feel emotions. My psychiatrist said up to four things could be the cause.

  1. The illness has taken away my emotions.
  2. The medication has taken away my emotions.
  3. My emotions need retrained and are confused by the derealization, depersonalization, and nihilistic delusion. (For example, I thought my parents were dead, But it was a delusion and then I spent time with them. My emotions don’t know whether to cry or be happy.)
  4. I shut down and walled off feeling emotionally.

I want to feel connected to my husband and kids, but I can’t.

It’s good that you’ve talked to your pdoc about it. You at least have some insight into what’s causing it, although I doubt that makes it easier to deal with. If it’s the meds causing it maybe a med change or a different dose would help. If not, maybe there’s some therapy you could do to help you feel more. I’m really not sure but I wish you the best.

I’m really sorry that you are feeling like this it sounds awful. I hope things change with time. They did for me so maybe they can for you too.

I have depersinalisation its just the worst isn’t it. How does it affect you.
Me personally it sucks out the life from my living soul… To an extent

I’m only emotionally connected to a small handful of people and I’m okay with that.

Well, I may get derealization and depersonalization mixed up but how they affect me are
A) Not feeling real
B) Feeling like my family is imaginary
C) Feeling like strangers are pretend
