Discharged today - "leaden paralysis"

I had the worst suicidal depression ever, but after three weeks in the best open ward with a kind staff, interesting patients i talked a lot with, im discharged and feeling better thanks to MAO-inhibitor.

The only symptom I have left is a heavy feeling in my body, and fatigue. It’s called “leaden paralysis.”’ It bothers me very much, but at least the suicidal ideation is gone.

“Leaden paralysis is defined as feeling heavy, leaden, or weighted down, usually in the arms or legs. This sensation is generally present for at least an hour a day but often lasts for many hours at a time”

Not heard of this but I have this problem

They are doing a scan to check my nerves in my lower back

Is this disorder related to meds or just a physical thing that happens?

Most psychiatric disorders are neurological too and in severe forms can cause physical neuro symptoms. But te good to rule out other causes

Hi @Joker and @Moon - sorry you suffer from this too. It can be a sign of atypical depression, but these meds can help:

Buprobion

modafinil

Methylphenidate
