Did you know nicotine affects some antipsychotics?

About a year ago I bought a nicotine oral spray when I was trying to give up cigarettes and it said in the leaflet that the dose might have to be adjusted if I was on olanzapine .

There’s no such problem with abilify which I’m on.

I’m just wondering the effects ecigs will have on other people’s meds now, after advocating ecigs here.

I have no idea. I tried to quit smoking this week but was a fiasco, will quit this year still. I don’t like smoking actually, don’t really know why I do it.

Normally, I’d recommend ecigs, but if they potentially affect the dosing of some antipsychotics , I’d recommend them after you’ve cleared their use with your psychiatrist.

Nicotine and Caffeine both affect the way Antipsychotics work

I was on abilify, I quit smoking and I had a relapse

Nicotine isn’t supposed to affect abilify officially, but nicotine makes abilify a much smoother experience than without for me. So I do wonder how true it is that abilify is unaffected by nicotine.

Nicotine doesn’t affect antipsychotic metabolism, smoking does. I have a couple of friends who have halved their medication dosage after switching to nicotine gum.
