Had to do some rewiring today after running wire for fan.
Switch was wired up to switch bottom half of receptacle by feeding power through white wire and switching the receptacle through black wire. Had to rewire receptacle box to feed a neutral and hot back up to light switch then ran a wire through attic from switch to where fan is going to be.
Then rewired switch and replaced receptacle and switch with new devices. Put up temporary light since I am waiting fan box to arrive in mail. Everything works so that’s good.
Any of you with electrical experience may know what I am talking about. Anyway, here is a pic of temporary light. Will post another pic once we get fan box and put up fan.
I did some rewording of my own when I was going through psychosis. I thought my apartment was rigged to explode so I took down the kitchen light and took all the wires apart. There were so many wires sticking out of my ceiling. I also went to the circuit box and removed one of the wires I though was connected to “the bomb”. I finally came to and asked my landlady to fix it. She was really pissed and actually evicted me. It was odd cause my parents came up and moved me home the next day. It played right into my psychosis. I thought “oh my parents know I’m in danger.” It was bad. Anyway. Your post about electricity reminded me of that.
Looks good though! I’ll be wiring up an electric guitar soon.
Wow, messing around with wires in a panel is the last thing I would want to do when I was psychotic. Glad that you did not electrocute yourself. Good luck with your guitar wiring.
I did shock myself. Very minor. And the guitar wiring will be interesting. I emailed a shop to see if they’d do it but the guy said it isn’t that bad to do yourself.
Thanks @Pandy . Yeah, unless you have electrical experience it’s kind of confusing. These days, they are always suppose to have a neutral in the switch box but they did not have these requirements then the house was built…they used the white as a hot instead of it being a neutral to feed the switch then broke the circuit with the black. I just had to switch the wiring in the receptacle around by connecting the white to the neutral side of receptacle and connecting the black to the incoming hot instead of screwing onto the receptacle. This changed the new receptacle to a constant hot receptacle instead of having it switched and fed a neutral and a hot up to my light switch which I needed for the overhead light/fan.
I was just relieved that after drilling down in attic we were able to feed the wire into the box. As you can see from this pic there is just a tiny cavity between the studs on edges of walls where the box for light switch is. There wasn’t much room to feed a wire down. Plus I was afraid there might be a board in the way halfway down the wall. It all went well though.
