My psychiatrist said I am more likely to have depression and anxiety rather than negative symptoms. I sleep a lot, often want to skip work and lack motivation to do hobbies and interests.
Anyone got similar problems? Do your conditions get better with antidepressant and anti-anxiety medicine?
Depression can feed the negatives or give you similar symptoms for sure. It’s not an exact science and it’s sometimes hard to tell. I’m paranoid sz but I need antidepressants as I also suffer major depression. It’s very common. I’ve also been on anti anxiety meds but weened myself off of them and deal with that in my own way.
It’s probably worth a shot at an antidepressant if you feel you have some level of depression. It could make a difference and some ssri’s are used for anxiety as well.
This is something my p doc and I have been discussing, if I had sz negative symptoms or a long major depressive episode. I prefer tricyclic antidepressants, especially since a lot of the atypical aps also deal with serotonin. Stick with what the doc says though. I hope you get to feeling better soon.
I also suffer from Major Depression, and this exacerbates my negative symptoms at times. Although at the moment my mood has been quite stable. I take a regular anti-depressant and this has been very effective for me. If your mood is also persistently low, and it is having a negative impact on your life, it may be worth your effort to have a talk with your pdoc about it and see if you both can’t make things better for you.
I am sza bipolar type and i deal with depression a lot. I’ve never talked with my pdoc much about negative symptoms. I think most of my problems as far as apathy, anhedonia and things like that come with depression as they tend to go away or at least get better when the depression goes away. I take a very small dose of sertraline because ADs make me manic. I also balance it out with Lamictal, a mood stabilizer which also helps with depression.
It seems to me the antidepressant and anti-anxiety meds really work well. I have motivation to work. I also woke up at 7am today. I used to sleep more than 10 hours a day ever since I have been on antipsychotics.
@FlyingPurplePeopleMeeter. It took a long time but I put myself out there a bit more in situations where I had to deal with people. I guess I don’t stress as much and if I need to I can talk enough to get out of conversations or spaces where I’m not comfortable. Sometimes that is still hard to do and I could use a benzo but I deal with it! If really bad I exit the situation.
My anxiety is way better. It’s not all gone but I feel a lot better. Whether that is just getting older and less severe symptoms or all this exercise I’m doing it has improved!
