We have a schizophrenia screening test - to help you identify if you have the early signs of schizophrenia. If you test positive - then go see an early psychosis treatment center. The test right now is a pdf file document (we used have a software test) - just download it from this link and the scoring document is also on this page down further:
It’s not surprising there would be so much variation if they were diagnosing people in the first visit. That just seems ridiculous. I’ve never come across that here (the UK). Doctors seem pretty reluctant to actually diagnose a specific disorder until they’ve had a fair bit of time to see whats going on. At least that seems to be the case with everyone I’ve come across with their doctors, though it may vary in other places here.
Same, didnt have any insight that i had schizophrenia. i actually thought everyone else was ill and i had figured out the secret to life
but for me the diagnosis doesnt matter. if you are exuding symptoms that go under the category of schizophrenia then it is quite possibly what it is.
Yes and no. Where there’s no self insight, it’s impossible but where there is, then yes. But it’s a bit like hurting your foot - it might be a break, a small fracture or a sprain - you know something is wrong so that’s part of the self-diagnosis (which we all do) but you need confirmation. A psychiatrist will ask a lot of questions, some you hadn’t thought about - and sure, he/she might confirm what you already knew OR he might find that you fit into some other category. Either way, people generally don’t suspect they have SZ for no reason so your best bet is to discuss symptoms with a doctor.
