Dairy products

I quit dairy, ate next to none of it for a while. Nearly all my stomach problems disappeared, and some fatigue and mental health issues (mood, pms) seemed to get better too. Today had loads of it again - milk, yoghurt, spaghetti carbonara. I love it! But now im punished, my stomach is troubling me again majorly and i feel bad. I think i need to quit. Several in my family have issues with it. I want to get tested.

Did anyone quit dairy products and what was the effect?

Dairy is an important part of a healthy diet. Mainly because it has protein and calcium.

I know…it is just that i seem to have trouble with it and it runs in the family. I was adviced by a doctor to cut back on it (and a few other things) and see what it did.

Well, the doctor probably has 8 or 10 more years of medical school than me so I would listen to him.

Yes, i thinks thats a good idea. Still okay you warned though…it is good to not just randomly skip all sort of basic foods. I think i will ask a dietician to take a better look. But im actually quite happy the stomach issues just went away/got much better!

yes i cut down on dairy for a while, i know i have problems with it. However its only possible if you replace it with something because you need good fats and proteins. A good replacement for it is soy milk (not almond milk because that doesnt have enough protein). You will also need a multivitamin that has iodine in it. Milk is a major source of iodine in our diets and if we dont get it out thyroid glands cant produce enough horomones to keep our metabolism going and thus we feel tired. Therefore we might find ourselves going back to milk because we crave iodine. The solution? suppliment with a multi-vitamin. Your gut may just not be able to handle it. Theres also a lot of new information about the Gut-brain connection.

Thanks…i will ask someone to actually test me for intolerances and think of a healthy balanced diet with me. I will take the iodine into account!

What did you notice upon quitting?

uh less bowel problems. ive kinda been messing up lately and drinking milk though to be honest because i just love it too much lol but yea i used to drink more soy milk. and plus i didnt have any soy milk for a while so i got used to drinking milk. But honestly i did feel ALOT better drinking soy milk. i feel like more relaxed, less angry i guess

I’ve taken out dairy in the past and I’m trying again. My skin gets brighter I feel less sluggish and I feel more alert. But the thing is, like you, I love dairy, it is pretty delicious, so I’ve always ended up back on it up to now. Especially the cheddar.
I made sure to get my calcium from fortified milk. Also I like seaweed which has that thyroxine in it… I just hope it’s sufficient

I removed all dairy from my diet for about 2 months. When I reintroduced it I got violently ill and had pretty bad stomach pains and my insomnia got worse. I try to avoid it as much as possible now.

But I just had a tiny bowl of plain yogurt because I do love it. But I only have it maybe twice a month at most.

If you’re getting a bad reaction from dairy, cut it out. Your body doesn’t like it. Don’t have it if it’s causing that many issues. In the paleo diet community, there’s a theory that up to 50% of the world population has some sort of dairy allergy. The reaction might not be to the extent of hives or hospitalization but people still can get negative reactions. Personally, I cut out dairy for a month and had some dairy from Starbucks and got a headache immediately and my head felt puffy. When I had high quality dairy, this didn’t happen.

I plan to stay off of it permanently because there’s a theory that casein in dairy makes sz worse.

I have heard this too, at least in a subset of the sz population and likewise for gluten…am trying to cut both out but it is not easy

Getting on a keto diet might help. Keto helps a lot with hunger and food cravings. I had a really hard time quitting carbs, specifically sugar, until I got on keto. My ability to resist food temptations is ridiculous on keto. I’ve made cheesecake and cookies for others and didn’t even consider trying them. I had a pinch to sample them and that was it.

I kind of have this as my diet plan but not fully, as I allow fruit. I feel I need just a tad of sugar so I allow myself two fruit mixed with sweet cinnamon per day .

How long have you been on keto ?

It’s been a little over a year. I lost 50 lbs on it. The AP’s were making me gain weight. They turbocharged my sweet tooth and I was eating so much sugar and putting on weight.

I got on it for weight loss and some hope that would help with SZ, but the results were weeellll beyond my expectations. It turns out keto helps with SZ as well. I got on a medical keto diet eventually and I’m so happy with it. It got rid of delusions that 15 mg of zyprexa didn’t even scratch.

No problem, it is interesting. I considered keto a few times, but i never did it. Im bad at sticking to diets anyway.

What about no or low lactose dairy? Assuming lactose is the problem. Harder cheese has little lactose, more runny cheese and yogurts more.

Yes, that is a good idea!
