I’m 24 and schizoaffective. 2 months in a hospital then since 3,5 years free from positive sympthoms.
I’m on risperidon and abilify.
I was on Latuda and Lamotigine and it would have been great (no weight gain/sleeping) if, after Lamotrigine, I didn’t have urges to check cables for 12 hours a night for fire etc. (OCD)
Now I am on a keto-like diet so as not to gain 0.5 kg per day (I used to). There’s sand in my kidneys from the diet. Also, have constant mild akathisia.
My new doctor understands this. Perhaps she will agree to Abilify + Ziprasidone or Latuda alone (it has stabilizing properties in both directions, even though they write that it only affects depression).
My father yelled at me and said he would throw me out of the house if I changed my medications. Because he was irritated by the nights when I was up checking things. But it was from Lamotrigine!
sit him down and tell him you have something to tell him but let you finish before responding…tell him the current meds you take and explain about the one med he didn’t like on you.
Thank you. I told him this before the first talk. He said ok but then he just started shouting and barely listened. I tried to crush his objections but no success.
Be circumspect with your father, but also be respectful. Let him know that you are fighting with an illness, and he might not understand what you are going through. The med’s the pdoc’s put us on have many detrimental side effects. Let him know that. Be assertive.
Welcome to the community. I hope you are able to get the medications you need without upsetting your father. Perhaps he can meet with your doctor with you?
Hey @angledangle , I saw your posts about making 100+K. Have you considered online courses? You could make one about becoming actuary or sth. Dan Henry has a book about this called sth like Digital millionaire secrets, for $1, it’s great.
Thanks, just sharing a possible way. Dan says you can make I don’t remember how much but he maybe said 10-20x more teaching a skill online rather than through skill. Glad stocks are doing good. I invest some too.
Also, inspiring to see you took gambles with meds and it’s worked out for you. I’m a bit nervous potentially switching from risperidon as it’s strong, but might be worth trying.
I gambled with medications a lot. I recently took Modafinil and it sent me in mania, and I am cooling off from that stage now. But, I am not afraid to try different things you know, if the longer-term outcome is better.
I would be on clozapine right now if it were for my pdoc. I didn’t take one gamble but multiple gambles to get where I am today. And, I am pretty functional usually now.
