Cramps upon waking up

I’ve been having this a lot the last few months. I’m not sure if it’s diabetes related or not. I just had one a short time ago after a nap. The leg ones are bad but they are easier to deal with because you can sort of walk them off or stretch your leg in the right way to get them to go away. The ones I get in my sides are a pain because you have to move into awkward positions and stay there for extended periods of time to get them to go away.

Anyway else have these frequently?

I get them in the legs. If I complain my sister starts listing off foods rich in potassium, always with banana on top. Eat a banana she tells me. I do. It works.

No unless I walk a lot.

I have heard about bananas as well. I just ate one just in case but I’m not sure if mine is related to deficiencies. Will see if I get one tomorrow :open_mouth:.

I sometimes get them in Winter when my legs have been cold for a long time during the night, but this is Summer so probably not that.

Also for the low down:

Leg cramps - NHS (www.nhs.uk)

Plus Risperidone causes me leg cramps if I walk a couple of miles.

My first thought was vitamin deficiency, like k, d or folic acid. You should be taking a multi vitamin anyway. At your elderly age. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: but definitely drink more water and have your doctor check.

Potassium and Magenesium deficiencies can cause cramps.

Bananas have postassium, you can get magensium supplements, but too much will affect your bowels.

You also may not be getting enough salt.

Have you tried taking Midol?

Rofl. Ok, not literally rolling on the floor laughing, but it did make me giggle.
