Cortical thickness loss at ap usage?

i just read one research about colleration between cortical thickness loss and ap usage.generally conclude that ap usage cause cortical thickness loss in the brain cortex.does anyone know anything about this issue?

i can not.its says it need moderator applying first when i try to share at here.but article were in website called mad in america.probably anti-pschiatry web site but it share scientific results.

If it is not backed by official scientific journals it’s best to ignore it.

Ok.i will ignore it.i didn t find anything else at google anyway.its probably stigmatic anti pschiatry spam news

Schizophrenia itself causes this. I had cognitive symptoms years before my sz diagnosis. Also there is no way to find out if its the meds since the patients also have schizophrenia at the same time. My experience with cognitive symptoms way before taking any meds indicates that its the sz that causes permanent brain tissue loss and not the meds.
Sad but true.

Mad in america intentionally misrepresented a real study done. Hang on, I will link the actual study.

When the analysis was restricted to those who sustained remission, exposure to olanzapine compared with placebo was associated with significant decreases in cortical thickness in the left hemisphere (β [SE], 0.04 [0.009]; t 34.4 = 4.7; P <.001), and the right hemisphere (β [SE], 0.03 [0.009]; t 35.1 = 3.6; P <.001). Post hoc analyses showed that those who relapsed receiving placebo experienced decreases in cortical thickness compared with those who sustained remission

In laymen’s terms, for people who did not relapse, patients who did not take an antipsychotic showed less brain damage. For people who DID relapse, patients who DID take antipsychotics showed less brain damage. All patients showed SOME brain damage.

What is brain damage, cognitive symptoms? I suppose every person that has suffered from psychosis has some brain damage?

Decreased grey matter volume. Basically, losing brain cells.

I wonder if the tissue loss decreases or increases with age…

All people lose some grey matter with age. We just lose more than average.

Grey matter contains neurons cell bodies which are the main brain cells other than astrocytes.

I meant specific to schizophrenia. Like does sz causes less tissue loss with age?

Ya the article is misleading. Getting drugs to cross the blood brain barrier is something of late. APs are designed to slowly thin brain cells outer layer so the meds can get into the cells. It’s by design. If they didn’t they wouldn’t do anything or lose effectiveness when your withdraw from medication. They have found lots of drugs that can heal that outer layer once you recovered. Far less if a problem than SZ. New drugs are coming, but who wants to wait.

Sz causes more tissue loss. On average 1-10% more than average.

Is it true that we need less dosage as we age bcz dopamine cells function decreases?

Statistically yes, sz gets better with age. I think most of our old timers can attest to that.

Man. That is a relief to hear
