Antipsychotic drugs linked to brain tissue loss in patients with schizophrenia

Yes - but the percent of brain tissue loss due to antipsychotics seems to be very low (less than 1% I’ve read) compared to brain tissue loss due to the psychosis.

"Now results from a new study has been released by Yale University and it shows that that brain loss is most likely due to, or concurrent with, inflammation in the brain and closely associated with psychotic episodes.

So, rather than suggesting that medications are the problem, it actually indicates that medications may be part of the solution – because its well documented that people who have schizophrenia are much more likely to suffer from relapses and recurrences of the “positive symptoms” of schizophrenia (the voices, delusions, etc.) that are very stressful to the person and that cause huge impacts on their life and those around them.

this doesn’t sit well with me, is the brain tissue loss from psychosis or the atypicals? Well every time I come out of a psychotic episode I feel like I got smacked upside the head with a hockey stick, but the longer I take these atypicals the dumber and more apathetic I become. sounds like your damned f you do damned if you don’t type scenario to me.

I seem to have recovered a bit since my psychotic episode. It did take a long time though. Maybe give it more time and maybe you might recover some more. Also it seems that after taking my meds for a while I got used to the medication and the bad effects for the most part diminished. Now the biggest thing I have is lack of libido.
