Considering finding a job

I’m considering getting a job… minimum wage. I haven’t been working because I’ve been recovering from my medication for 10 years. I have a mental illness (schizophrenia)…I’ve been feeling fine for the last 2 years.

I am 35 years old.been diagnosed since 20 years old.

I’m “feeling” not so lucky because idk how to make the “right” resume. I live in Cali Los Angeles. the only time I had a part time job was in 2013… I was doing warehouse for 1 year.

what do I do here? I forgot level 8 math, can’t read anymore, speak English, not Spanish fluently…

by the ways I think I have weak knees. I tried weight lifting but always ending up with shaking knees and wobbly.

i need advice on my empty unemployment timeline

Hey Noop!
I live in LA too. You should apply at home depot in the gardening department. They are very lenient there. I worked at home depot a few years ago in the lumber department. It was really stressful on me so I finally spoke up and HR recommended I work in the gardening department. That is where most of the elderly work their but it’s better than nothing. Honestly you get to work in a refreashing and calm environment. Try to see if you can apply to Lowes too. I found being honest with my condition schizophrenia, that people are willing to ajust. Ask to speak to a manager and let them guide you on what to do next during the job application process. Maybe check out indeed too.

Here in Santa Clara Valley we have several employment agencies that deal with the disabled and some of them deal specifically with the mentally ill. They are free and they work with various companies and businesses in the area to supply them with workers. The ones I used showed me where the jobs are at companies so I could put in an application.

These employment agencies also helped create resumes and held mock interviews with us to sharpen our interview skills. Maybe you could look into this to see if there’s any of these agencies in your area because they got regular jobs for people but they also worked with companies who hired disabled people. If anyone would know what to do with an empty resume, it’s these employment agencies. They don’t just tell you about one, single job opening they give you multiple places to apply.

Our situations are very similiar, except you’re older than me by 2 years.

Honestly, say ‘medical reasons’, I even mention ‘mental health reasons’.

Just don’t get into specifics.

U could even say U were in school.

I work as a janitor for a company that hires the disabled and veterans.

I think on some minimum wage jobs the employers would be willing to train the right person with no experience to do the job. So if you applied and they liked you and thought you had potential or would fit in well with their company they might be willing to overlook the fact that you have no experience and train you to do the job.

Good luck in the job-hunt. I would just try to find out what your stressors are and then look for a job that doesn’t stress you too much.
