Coming off Invega?

Hello everyone,

I’ve been reading alot of different forums about people coming off antipsychotics and want some opinions. In 6-8 months, my doctor gave me the go ahead to quit my antipsychotics and said I shouldnt have any issues. I was first put on 6mg invega but am now down to 3mg and wondering if there will be any withdrawal symptoms or chances of my psychosis coming back. In terms of diagnosis, one doctor told me that I have underlying schizo while another tells me it was drug induced from marijuana. Regardless, 3mg is the lowest dose and havent had any flare up of symptoms at all and I’m wondering if the 3mg is even doing anything at that low of a dose or will my brain become addicted to these drugs in the longrun. Any suggestions help but will be talking with my doctor about final decisions for the future.

Welcome,
how long have you been on Invega and how long have you been without psychotic symptoms?

Since October for both.

If it was really just drug-induced psychosis, you probably won’t have a problem as long as you follow your doctor’s orders EXACTLY. Your brain still needs time to heal, right now. If you stop too soon, you risk relapsing and making your condition permanent.

Most doctors recommend 12-18 months of staying stable at the same dose with zero symptoms before slowly weaning you off your meds.
