Colourised film of working men, women & children in the UK (1901)

That’s interesting. For some reason, because the film has been colorized, it makes me feel like I’m watching Hollywood film footage instead of actual real life film footage.

I love how excited the children are with the camera. They must of heard of film cameras and this probably is the first time they’ve seen one.

How did people dressed like that deal with armpit sweat?

Very nice video, my parents liked it too.

In the U.K. around that time. on a Sunday evening, They had tin baths in front of the open coal fire and they heated water on the stove or fire to fill the tin bath and the man of the house would go first, then the mother and oldest child to youngest child would use same bath water. Then they would use bath water to wash clothes on a Monday as this was the day they did the clothes washing as it was the cleanest air quality as the factory’s had been shut over the weekend, no smog etc. They would need to hang wet clothes outside on line to dry.

Things were difficult back then, living with no technology and in poverty.

We don’t know absolute poverty in the west in the 21 first century.

A good autobiography book to read about poverty in Southern Ireland around 1920s is called Angelas Ashes. It’s a brilliant book.

Wow, that’s fascinating to watch.

I got a movie from my library that uses a similar technique of colorizing old film. The title of it is They Shall Not Grow Old.
