Are they different? Are they connected together?
Do they affect each other? In my experience they are separate symptoms and dont affect each other. I still feel smart and can use it in computers etc but not in something productive irl like work. I can still study if I am on Abilify but still cant work
My therapist said I still have my intelligence but I cant fully use because of negative symptoms. Maybe she’s right.
I think negative symptoms and cognitive impairments can make each other worse.
Yea maybe they handicap each other.
She also said negative symptoms are in my mind and I can control them which is not true, they’re a known medical condition. Thats why I dumped her and dont need another therapist.
I think there may be a loop. Negatives mean that one cannot do things or get motivated to do things, and if one doesn’t do anything, then the cognitive symptoms get worse. The brain is plastic, and you either use it or lose it.
I think I have very mild negatives, but severe cognitive symptoms.
Nice articles, thanks @firemonkey
Both are different. The reason why I say is because there are lot of below average cognitive skill people in this world but they have no sign of depression or lack of motivation in day to day activities, to do job etc.
Schizophrenia can give positive, negative and cognitive symptoms. Its possible that some schizophrenia person can have only cognitive symptoms.
My father is one example for that. He have no positive or negative symptoms nor have any sign of depression but his cognition is very bad. He not able to understand even the simple things. Not able to use mobile. Need to tell him each step over and over again and quickly forgets. Working memory is terrible due to that he count currency notes over and over so even a small distraction like some sound disrupts his concentration.
