Christmas Menu

So I am brainstorming Christmas dinner. I do not want it to be too similar to our Thanksgiving dinner.

This is what I have thought of thus far:
Ham
Green bean casserole
Mashed potatoes
Cardamom Yams
Deviled eggs (bacon on top, maybe)
Cheese balls and crackers
Cookies and fudge for dessert

Sounds fantastic! We are having ham too

Don’t forget the stuffing. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes::grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes::grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Roast beef, roast potatoes, roast parsnips/carrots in honey, Yorkshire pudding, celiac gravy.

Mince pies for desert.

Cooking for one, so I won’t overdo it…

Oops, yes, I forgot to add cornbread stuffing.

What I have depends on whether or not my family is with me. They might be going to spend it with in-laws. I have to stay within a certain range of advanced medical support and there’s nothing where they live. Would be nice to be able to plan.

I’m going to taco my arse off if left home alone.

That’s pretty close to what we’re having if I have family home. I’m going to sous vide a beef chuck roast.

For Christmas eve we are having homemade maid rites. I honestly don’t know what the plan is for Christmas day yet. We are opening presents and having my sister and her son and daughter over for Christmas eve. Maybe my brother and law and his wife and son as well, I’m not sure.

Anyway, I have not heard what the plans are for Christmas dinner itself.

I had planned to buy a can of Christmas Tinner this year, but it sold out too quickly.

Ew. Just ew.

You could make your own and coat it in jello, like the 60s and 70s.

Is this real? :thinking::thinking::thinking:

I’ve made beef aspic. Had to as part of my chef’s training. It was narsty.

Yes. Novelty item intended for gamers who don’t want to leave their gaming chair to eat Xmas breakfast or dinner. I know someone who tried it and said it was less than auspicious. It’s a bucket list thing for me.

Maid rite is a restaurant chain. I’m not sure how widespread it is throughout the country. Their sandwich is also called a maid rite:

Loose meat? That doesn’t sound appetizing to call it that. Sounds a bit like pulled pork. I gotta go look at this.

edit- I read the recipe. That’s different. Like a unique sloppy joe.

You should consider trying them sometime, they aren’t bad. A little hard to eat because they are messy with the “loose” hamburger and all, but a unique taste.

I might just try them. Thanks for the recipe.

Just FYI, looking at that recipe and the reviews the pepper amount may be a little high. If you decide to try them sometime I would start out with less and season to taste. I’m not sure if my dad’s recipe uses pepper at all…it’s just one I pulled off the web that included the coca cola and Worcestershire sauce.

I pulled my dads recipe out of his files, his is

4 lbs hamburger
14 oz beef broth (not beef bullion)
4 tbs soy sauce
1/4 c. coke
Garlic to taste

He prepares his in crock pot after browning hamburger.

Thanks! I might just try it one of these days. It would be a nice change from normal sloppy joes.
