This is definately up to debate @everhopeful
The psychiatrists I’ve talked to said that the efficacy of the treatment depends more on the individual. Those with a recovery mindset tend to do well with it. In other words, if you’re focused on making progress, CBT works. If you’re someone who is prone to making excuses, it won’t do anything for you.
I completely agree with you 100 %.
CBT is hard work. The more effort you put in the better the results. You need to ingrain these principles within you.
If you do just make excuses and dont put any work into it its completely useless
But its VERY powerful if you stable and can put the effort in
What are these other psychosocial therapies they speak of? I’ve heard of cbt and that’s it.
So social skills training and working with your family for a better outcome plus cbt.
Wow! (sarcasm detected )
All of those psychosocial therapies could work together and thus not outdo each other and be any of the less effective.
Yes. I haven’t received any psychosocial therapies. I’m dubious that any of them would be beneficial for me. But maybe that’s a self fulfilling prophecy though.
Yeah, you get out what you put in as the old saying goes.
Just starting a self program of cbt myself through a self help book this new year. It may help I suppose.
Let us know how it goes. A few people here have had success with CBT.
CBT or really any of those types like ACT, DBT etc. are helpful if your willing to put in the work and also given a bit of direction on how to put in the work.
for me I absolutely need structure in my day to do much.
im not sure how it would work on psychosis though.
im going to be doing it for negative symptoms
I found it useless.
I have never done something so pointless in my life.
It started off well, but then the psychologist just got fixated on teaching me about love for yourself and others, and compassion. She was condescending and I did not appreciate it.
I cannot believe I waited a whole year to see a psychologist to be confronted with that kind of thing.
What an absolute waste of time
I love cbt its someone to talk to who u risk won’t tell anyone outside my NHS team, n gives u a professional perspective I need to go again soon thanks for reminding me. I’m fragile in terms of my health so it’s bit risky but I’ll do it anyways
I’m with https://twitter.com/keith_laws?lang=en on CBT.
I tried very hard to get cbt to work. Have had 5 separate courses of it plus other non-pharmacological therapies. Did jack for me
