Capitalism disgust me

I like hot running water and indoor plumbing. (Yeah!)

I definitely prefer it to some of the stupid alternatives that have been perpetrated on this planet. But I will suggest that – just as is the case with populist socialism, “one-class” (yeah) communism, fundamentalist theocratism, and good old-fashioned feudalism, one can go too far with it.

I think the best system is that which we have - a sort of hybrid socialism/capitalism economic system. Capitalism creates more wealth, but thank God for the safety net.

I’m old enough to remember Dwight Eisenhower and Nelson Rockefeller, as well as Handsome Johnny and LBJ. They were into tax base development in part for utilization of taxes for social welfare purposes. Not sure if the Presidents since then have even understood the concept, even though it continues to work in practice. What will occur on the social welfare front as we are forced to downsize and backpedal to provide for the planet’s health is anyone’s guess.

I’m optimistic that we can maintain our standard of living and even export it to the rest of the world through improving technology. There might be an uncomfortable pinch here and there, but I think people know that we want to keep our goose that lays the golden egg alive. They say there are starting to be good investments in new, downsized technologies that will save us from drowning in our own wastes. In the U.S. there are increasing opportunities for investment in wind energy. We plan to increase our share of electricity generated by wind from five per cent, as it is now, to at least twenty-five per cent by 2030. The price of solar panels has decreased by ninety per cent, and there should be good investments in that. We need to keep our faith in the future and not let alarmists scare us from investing in new technology.

That is utter bollocks.

We started with the bartering system. The simple exchange of commodities and skills. No capitalism there. But then someone realised they could gain wealth and power by creating metal discs which everyone had to use if they wanted food and goods. And thus capitalism was born. The wealth was now distributed into the hands of a minority of people. The sad thing is, if we shared all the money out evenly now, before too long it would all end up back in the hands of a minority of people. This is how rotten capitalism is. This is why it teeters on the edge of yet another economic crash.

Best wishes,
Padster

I do think money is debt and scarcity and I I’m not sure ifyou’re suggesting that you can’t be productive without being on a payroll. Tesla and the write brothers had no monetary incentives. My apologies if you think I’m suggesting that you shouldn’t continue what you’re doing. By all means work within the system. Doesn’t make the system not outdated. We need to adapt to the rapid productivity due to technology. If we don’t our future will be short. Again this isn’t a personal attack on your situation, this is just where we stand imo

I could be wrong. Maybe the Yolo lifestyle with ride on for years and wealth redistribution goes against the hierarchical nature of human beings

the great thing about capitalism is you are rewarded for your own contribution accordingly.

why is there a ignorant belief that one system will provide ‘eternal’ prosperity for all?

The system doesn’t matter ,there will be ups and downs in all.

we are about to see a big one pretty soon, and just because many souls will suffer that doesn’t mean that its a bad thing.

Far from it …the world is about to clean house and if it doesn’t we as a species cannot move forward and be productive.

These labels (excuses? ) that we give to explain our actions are nothing but tools in the human method of madnesss.

The method may change but the madness stays the same.

It comes down to one group thinking that they know whats best for the progression of society so they herd up and form a collective for ignorance.

While the obvious problem of self corruption is over looked.

You see everything in this world is symbiotic so we all effect each other in a positive or negative way whether we know it or not.

Its that NOT that is really screwing with us,people aren’t aware that we effect each other every day whether we like it or not.

So when we come to a point where we can’t agree on something we as humans look to blame it on something so lets have factions where we legally, morally, and god forbid religiously disagree to the point that entire nations are involved.

This leads to us inventing excuses for our indiscretions as human beings.

There are many lives lost in the name of capitalism.

There are many lives lost in the name of communism.

Who won? Nobody

you know why?..because we still never figured out that the problem isn’t in the system but the creating/implementing of ANY system when the creator/implementing is just not productive.

They’re working on them right here in SLO at Cal Poly, where environmental science is a hot topic even if you vote for elephants. They are figuring out all manner of ways to digest refuse over there.

I was blessed to do developmental work for the wind energy industry in the Palm Springs area in the 1980s and 1990s. And I occasionally drive through the Carizo Plain between SLO and B-field where the solar panels are going up like crazy. We’re also seeing fringe-area farm land in the southern San Joaquin being converted from ag to solar now.

I see good in all ways of governing and any good is the result of cooperation among those peoples although all the peoples subject to those different systems are not always in agreement and so their systems become divided and weakened because of the divisions. Each system of government then can be seen as a microcosm of what the world’s way as a whole operates like (seriously divided). If we were really smart we would take from each others systems it’s best ideas and work together to help each other towards becoming a more unified collective for the common good of both man and the planet we inhabit and that means proper consideration for all other life forms that inhabit it as well. If we, as nations, would contribute to each others ways instead of just competing with each other for the riches of this world we might , just might survive long enough to discover how to traverse space, or discover something even greater. Like COOPORATING for the common good.

There were times in history that we did share knowledge and know-how until some bastards decided they need to control it all for themselves just because they thought that they could. I’m talking about regimes and principalities such as the Roman Empire, The Crusaders, and Hitler just for a few more recent examples of global dominance just for the sake of more wealth and control over the lives of the free. The bad element that always seeks to dominate must become more transparent to us all who love life and especially to those who are blinded to it by having the wool pulled over their eyes (so to speak), for those ignorant among us can easily be lead off into the darkness in the ways of this world.

Solar and wind power interest me a lot…

I hope this project becomes a more wide spread reality… then farm land would have to be converted. I understand how important it is… but at the same time… we also need our farm land for food development.

Actually… that’s changing too… Vancouver is working on Warehouse farming…

For me the best critic of capitalism. Sadly, in french : only for french speaking people.

It works, but as the EU & China are proving, it doesn’t work as good as socialist economies. Standards of living can continue improving, but to be perfectly honest I don’t think I’d have a problem with any era’s standard of living - whether 2000 BCE or 2000 CE. I know how to survive whilst under duress.

I tend to agree with this general statement. Capitalism is lousy, but its the best alternative. The key issue with capitalism is the issue of that people don’t pay the full cost of many things - e.g. oil, chemicals, plastics etc. - where the longterm cost of of cleanup, impact on the world, etc. - is unknown so people don’t pay for it.

Its not a simple issue at all.

Maybe schizophrenia fully belongs to capitalist dynamics. The greek σχίζω (skhízô) comes from the ancient indo-european root “skey” which means “to split, to dissect”. We know that capitalism is mainly an exponential splitting process of the original human communities. So, we can assume that schizophrenia is probably a very capitalistic disease!

We have a mixed economy, so we are not pure capitalists per se.

Many (besides, but including, those with psychopathologies) have terrific difficulty with observing to notice to acknowledge to accept to own to appreciate to understand that we live in a complex world full of ambiguity and conflict.

But… when one does get to such understanding, transcendence of all the angst about things being as they are is a “fire truck coming up around the bend.”
