…there is now a med that treats sz 100% including negative and cognitive symptoms?
How does past trauma and stress related to sz
affect that? How do disturbing past memories affect that? How does your age affect that?

About as much as you let it.
There’s no point in holding onto bad feelings and memories. Life goes on, and the past is the past.
I hope they find a cure before I am 40. I already wasted all my young years from 16 to 30 now.
I won’t be able to enjoy life as much if I am older when they find the cure.
The psychological damage that compounds this illness must not be underestimated. The more time one spends in isolation, depending on others for basic survival needs, the less likely to recover, even if they take a super-medicine.
I think the biggest factor will be your age at when the cure will be found. The cure won’t change anything for old ppl I think because they already socially isolate, e.g. They won’t go to bars and pickup girls or guys, go to the cinema, etc
If you wait for a cure you’ll waste most of your life. You need to make the most of what you have right now.
If you are serious enough to improve your life then you can do it. Play cognitive games continuously, solve hard puzzles, do heavy workouts regularly, do daily activities on time like eating, brushing, poop, sleep, bath etc at regular times.
The thing is if depend on motivation, interest for every needed activity then its hard for it to come and this is how mental disease affect an individual. Its not like paralysis where even if we try we can’t function instead it appears like mental paralysis but if we force ourselves to function normally then we can do it like regular individuals. There are individuals with ADHD and other learning disabilities still function normally. Actually these individuals can blame on ADHD and stop functioning but instead they not allow the disease to affect their daily living. Same way if force ourself to doing needed then its possible.
I’m sorry but I just cant imagine a med that treats negative symptoms and positive symptoms without major side effects.
They’re not going to find a cure. I’ve listened to them talk about it my entire life and all we’ve gotten are some meds that are slightly better, but not a lot better. Expect the same twenty-five years from now, meds are that are a touch better than we have now.
If there’s going to be a big change in your life, you’re going to have to be the source of it.
Anything is possible with science, science is not constant, it has its highs and lows.
Big difference between what’s possible and what’s probable. Places like Las Vegas exist because too few people understand that.
I still remember the old forum 10 years ago there is a sticky that mentioned that they got more then half the chance of finding a cure by 2013 or 2016??Now its 2020,the treatment haven’t changed
Mental diseases create gradual damage to brain cells which is likely permanent. If our brain get damaged by some injury, stroke etc its very unlike that part get healed instead that part function is allocated to other part or cells in brain to continue and that occur by rehabilitation training, habits etc. Same way we need to create habits, schedules etc so our brain can allocate damaged region function to other parts.
For example in OCD. Its not possible to stop obsession as the brain’s filter is already damaged and how to cope is by adding a pause and redirect our attention away from that distraction and move on. Reassure the mind that that obsession is due to the damage in brain and acknowledge it and refuse to go along with obsession or compulsion. This is principle behind CBT, ERP for managing OCD.
Some meds for negative symptoms will be released in 2-5 years, Roluperidone Clinical Phase 3 in 2018 and KarXT Clinical Phase 3 in 2020.
I rather think positively to not commit suicide again because I won’t stay alive for long, I stayed in bed all day everyday for years and still do. I only get up to eat and to play videogames 1-2x/week. I am 30 y.o. and gained 150lb, now I am obese taking meds for high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes. My parents get my meds and food. I can’t go outside and I didn’t go outside for years.
For negative symptoms, Roluperidone started clinical trials 3 in 2018, KarXT just started clinical trials 3 recently. There are other meds too.
Its good for the health to think positively.
Yes there is little physiological permanent damage but there is no permanent functional damage. The brain can adapt itself unless you have severe degenerative diseases like dementia and Alzheimer. Mental illness is not a degenerative disease
I think mental disease might be either a degenerative disease or not. Most mental disease have a genetic factor which calls the body to transform into something as years pass by. Mental diseases mostly not stay fixed it mostly get worse as age increase pointing to some kind of degeneration issue.
Mental illness is not a degenerative disease. Its just chemical imbalance. I learned this in psychology and neuroscience classes.
Degenerative diseases cause more disability than mental illness. I can post the WHO disablity statistics if you want. Top disability are Dementia and Alzheimer then Schizophrenia.
Here is Wold Health Organization list of most disabling diseases by order, Dementia and Alzheimer (Degenerative diseases) are more disabling than Schizophrenia (Most disabling mental illness, more than Mental Disability):

Why then mental diseases often get worse as we age? I mean blunted affect getting worse, anhedonia getting worse, working memory get worse etc etc.
