so i did have 2 instances of voices, that were drug induced, before i was diagnosed schizophrenic. but voices went away for years as i was sober. anyways i was diagnosed and put on risperdal, took it for a few months and stopped, and that’s when my voices appeared consistently. and they didn’t start to go away until i got back on meds. did meds do this to me? or was i just later onset at 27?
was it a dopamine rush?
Hmm.
I Have A Question For You @Lifer.
Maybe You Can Be Of Service Here In The Landscape Of Pure Eternal Glory Triumph And Freedom.
Why Are Some People So Infatuated With Medical Speak Language Shadow And Such?.
You are clearly doing good in meds as would any of us if one reacts positively to meds… so keep continuing your meds. What does your pdoc say?
Hmm.
Maybe It’s The Psychological Groundbreaking Form Of Commonsense Overcoming Second Guessing And Self Doubt.
Interesting. . . . . . .
There’s a thing called dopamine supersensitivity. That can be triggered by starting and abruptly stopping meds.
yeah im not going to quit my meds. i need them for life now, just curious why i never needed them before and didn’t start to hallucinate until i stopped them for a couple years in the past.
@everhopeful maybe that is what happened to me, don’t know really.
@ATARI im sorry, i don’t know how to answer that question, but i suspect you have your own thoughts on the matter.

sorry if you took offense, i just dont honestly know how to respond to you.
I Was Kidding Yo.
My Mom started and stopped multiple antipsychotics (she’s bipolar) never had hallucinations
I don’t think stopping meds by tapering causes psychosis. Some szics stop their meds and never get psychosis again. Also like johpollck said antipsychotics are used for disorders other than sz and stopping meds doesn’t make them get psychosis.
How come they put you on risperdal if you didn’t have psychosis?
Yes stopping AP drugs causes positive symptoms even if you have no positive symptoms before started taking AP drugs. Reason is when you take AP dopamine level is decreased so dopamine receptors is more sensitized. So when you stop AP those sensitized dopamine receptors get a huge rush of dopamine which can result in positive symptoms ranging from simple anxiety to psychosis.
Does that happen only with sz/sza’s? Or does it also happen with bipolars?
Yes even if have no mental disease. AP should only be taken if have positive symptoms which cannot be controlled by the individual.
If a normal person is drugged with AP for certain period and if AP suddenly stopped they experience positive symptoms for some period and some time it can become permanent and then require AP to manage positive symptoms. Also if a normal person is drugged with AP they can experience mild negative symptoms due to the dopamine blocking effect.
İ used to quit clozapine aps for two months.after two months i start to hear voices.i never heared voice before.i also sometimes hear voice when i combines aps.
My psychotic symptoms became worse after stopping 3mg daily rispiridone after a couple months
Suddenly stopping an antipsychotic or having a short taper can induce psychosis, also certain AP’s can induce mania in vulnerable bipolar and SZA patients which can lead to psychosis.
As an example Vraylar triggered me to become manic and psychotic 5 years ago.
Then the best thing to do, if it’s the AP’s making you on the edge of psychosis, is to taper off them, one at a time, and very slowly, with pdoc supervision. Who wants to be in the position of your meds making you sick or vulnerable?
