Can non prodigies be equal to prodigies?

Can’t seem to find a good source on this question.

Can a genius become one without being a prodigy?

Anything is possible I suppose! I mean, I’ve seen some pretty far out s*** in my life, so wouldn’t surprise me if a genius can become one eventually.

I think prodigy just means you pick things up quickly, typically at a young age. Things tend to level out as people of whatever chosen discipline you’re talking about get older.

I grew up with a kid who was a prodigy on guitar, 20 years later he’s still better then me but not that much better. it’s also his career. he plays all day every day. on average I play maybe 5 hours a week. I’m pretty sure if I woke up tm with insatiable urge to practice with in 6 months to a year we’d be on a very similar level.

Fun fact: you can only learn to have perfect pitch when you’re young and as you age it almost always goes away.

You’re either a prodigy or you’re not. Non-prodigies can develop mastery of skills and knowledge domains, but it takes us so much longer. Maybe a decade if we’re lucky.
