I’ve been doing a lot of research the last few weeks. Comparing the pros and cons of campervans vs touring caravans vs tents.
You can get some amazing tent set ups these days that hook up to electric at the camp site. It’s not like it used to be….you can really do it in style and comfort.
So I’ve decided by next year I will save up roughly £1500 to get a lovely tent and all the gear. Then we can take our sons all over the country camping.
I think it’s become my new obsession. Been watching loads of YouTube videos and researching all the different equipment.
I am just starting. It is a significant lifestyle change for me. I have a holiday trailer that is in good nick and a slide-in camper that needs some TLC.
No longer married but when I was we used to go a few times a year. We had a very large tent and took our infant son, crib and all with us. He still feels refreshed in nature. Beach camping is a great time too.
Food tastes the best in the woods, and a cup of Java on the coals has the best flavor.
Look into buying used camping gear on eBay. You can save a lot of $$
An idea for if it rains - take large tarps and bungee cords. You can spread it out overhead over a picnic table, using trees as anchors.
I did this way up high over the fire once and we had a campfire even though it was raining.
We have a travel trailer and have been camping since our daughter was a baby.
We love camping!
It is cheaper than hotels, we save a ton of money by bringing our own food, it is peaceful being out in nature, and no fear of hotel bedbugs coming home with us.
Most importantly, when I get too stressed and need to take mental health breaks then I am able to crawl into my own bed and rest for a few hours while my husband takes our daughter fishing or hiking.
I don’t go camping anymore but I used to and loved it. My kids are in scouts so they camp routinely. It’s very peaceful when you don’t camp with children. Lol .
I’m looking at what I just spent on the truck and I would not say it is cheaper, but I agree with the rest. This is a lifestyle change I have had in the works since March 5th of last year, the day after my best friend died. I made a commitment to do this and I have worked toward it every day since. I am almost there.
The next thing is to put solar cells on the travel trailer and wire them into my power box. Also have to change the wheel bearings and do the brakes.
Fact. My current headache is that my daughter wants to borrow the trailer for several weekends this summer. That is a flat no. She has a tent and a young back.
I get that. That’s why you travel in groups and only with friends. Mace and tasers are very useful. But it’s true. Society is more inhospitable than it used to be.
That’s almost identical to the interior of my slide-in camper, except my cushions are way uglier. I am refreshing it this summer. Going to leave the appliances as-is since it is a vintage unit. There is no washroom or shower.
I am looking into getting a small box trailer for the back of our car at the moment to fit extra luggage in. I doubt it would all fit in the boot. There are roof boxes but I’m not too sure.
I am installing extra eye hooks along my camper and travel trailer for this purpose, to give me anchor points for extra tarps along with some extra poles for them. My travel trailer does have an awning that comes out, but those are of limited utility when the weather is truly crappy outside and you still want to have a fire (let’s face it, with our long fire bans about the only time you CAN have a fire these days is when it is raining).
