Truth is in my country situation is the same.
If he doesn’t want help, we cannot force him to get help…
Maybe he will hit rock bottom And change? Just don’t forget about your own mental/emotional health
He had very huge problems in his life and never made any conclusions… @AKendrick
I believe, sadly, bigger possibility is that something bad soon will happen to him.
Drug addiction sucks … Hopefully he will get lucky and be ok .
At this stage, I can only hope for a miracle and that he gains some insight into the situation.
But I’m worried.
It’s very ugly for me to be so pessimistic while mentioning my brother… But the only hope I have for him now is him staying alive.
I used to know a drug addict woman before she became one…heard she fell into a wild bunch of users and ran away from the hospital while she was healing with a broken leg…friends said she limped after that and was murdered by some of her cohorts…reminded me…sorry.
The only thing you can do is to be ready to be there for him if he asks for help.
Do your research and find a rehab program with great results and reputation.
Then, if asked for help you can tell him you’ve looked into it and that’s the best place.
But it has to come from him to want to change his life.
How did he get away with signed papers?
Was he not 51/50d /sectioned?
In my country you can refuse treatment if you don’t want it by signing papers.
Even if it means there’s possibility of dying.
its pretty much the same everywhere. u can do the same in the US unless they think u cant make desicions. but i bet here they would have let him sign papers and leave too. its called “leaving against medical advice”
I don’t know if your brother has any goals or dreams in life. I don’t know if he even thought about having his own marriage or family. Or if he’s just focusing on working and providing for himself only. But I do have compassion on you your brother and your family. Addiction is just a series as schizophrenia and even way more serious at times. It is a medical condition to me just as schizophrenia is. I have addiction and was using alcohol and marijuana daily for almost 2 years straight. I even wanted to go on the harder drugs like cocaine and was wanting something even more. But I wanted to do everything legally. So thank goodness those were the only legal options. As you can see my mental state with addiction is just different. I have just Stuck with vaping nicotine now. And also I see how it is an addiction and it is very dangerous to my health also. It is in my goals to stop vaping for the risk that it is to my life also. I don’t know if your brother has ever thought about stopping using drugs. And any help he’s had with trying to. I have found someone to talk to who was a former alcoholic and I talk to him weekly. And he is very open minded and we can discuss anything. Everything you have discussed about concern for your brother is completely legitimate. May you and your family continue to try and help him and find ways for him to live as responsibly as he can.
I live in America, I know from nursing that you can admit someone for 72 hours against their will if they are a harm to themselves or a harm to others.
