British scientists have begun testing a radically new approach to treating schizophrenia based on emerging evidence that it could be a disease of the immune system

30 patients will receive monthly infusions of an antibody drug currently used to treat multiple sclerosis (MS), which the team hopes will target the root causes of schizophrenia in a far more fundamental way than current therapies.

This is great news.

I hope it works but I won’t change treatments until it becomes obvious it does.

Since this is a 2 year trial, it’s supposed to wrap up at the end of this year.

Very interesting, looking forward to reading about the results.

Exciting. There hasn’t been a true change in frontline treatment in 50+ years. Setting up a dopamine blockade via drugs to ease positive symptoms still seems like the only thing psychiatrists know to do. May not get a treatment on the first drug trial but the article seems to indicate they are monitoring more than symptom relief.

But still, seems like greater recovery is more of a waiting game
