Boil water alert question

My water is on boil alert notice due to a water main break. I showered in it though, and yesterday I made macaroni and cheese with it, but brought the water to a rolling boil for a few minutes. I just got sick to my stomach. Is it from showering? The mac and cheese? Probably something else? Would you shower if there was a boil water alert?

I’ve showered and brushed my teeth on accident I think just as long as you don’t consume high amounts

I would and I have.

When I lived in Florida we got those water boil alerts frequently after hurricanes.

We would always shower regularly.

You might want to find out as much as you can about the boil water alert. It can’t hurt. You could probably call the water utility.

Ok @GoldenRex @Winterblues @crimby I’ll keep showering and assume my upset stomach was caused by something else

You have to boil the water for at least ten minutes, I believe. But you probably accomplished that with making the macaroni and cheese. It might be psychosomatic. You know the water is unsafe, so your body is freaking itself out.

Maybe you’re right @Ninjastar. I probably psyched myself out.

I have never heard of a boil water alert.
What does this mean?
I’m not so educated but grateful for what I do know and hey I am able to read this and ask this question.:slightly_smiling_face:

It means the water either does or may have bacteria levels that are unsafe for consumption but if you boil it long enough first it kills the bacteria and makes it safe @Truemist8

Sometimes an upset stomach is a sign of anxiety. Also did you physically see the contaminated water? Was it brown? It’s kind of like the same concept of a tornado warning vs. Watch. Your water might not even be contaminated

It’s a little discolored but not bad @Winterblues

I don’t think you can get sick. It’s rust, I think. Just don’t use a filteration system because the water will ruin it if you have one

Ok :slightly_smiling_face:thank you for letting me know.

Oh I just read your post on bacteria. That, I did not know. Like I said, I’ve accidentally brushed my teeth a lot of times when it was brown and my health wasn’t in jeapordy

The notice said there may be unsafe levels of bacteria due to the water main break @Winterblues. I only got sick once so far so I think @Ninjastar is right and I psyched myself out. The water becomes stagnant while they’re fixing it and that’s the problem

You should probably use bottled water or boiled water when you brush your teeth and to rinse your toothbrush.

Your water resource provider should have have information on their website if they issued the boil water alert.

I had a flood at my house and there was a boil water alert. I didn’t know and felt sick for a few days after drinking it. Like nauseas but it didn’t kill me.

For the most part, ingestion will be your biggest culprit. Unless you have open wounds to act as a main entrance for the bacteria, the showering won’t be the issue.
