Bladder issues, pains- external catheter rest of my life

I was examined by the urologist because I have had bladder pains for years. They discovered my bladder is extremely large, AP’s haven’t helped with that problem since a lot of them give urinary retention.

My bladder can only empty it self when there is over a liter of fluid in it, so now I have to use a latex tube every time I take a piss (4-5 times daily)

First it felt like a disaster. After a couple of days I figured out it does not need to be a disaster, it takes 3 minutes to use a catheter and it’s easy to transport if I want to travel, But anyway, some spontaneity is lost. I think I can cope.

At least it’s not a fixed, stationary catheter dangling from my dick.

I read that ketamine causes bladder problems, anything similar to that?

I’m impressed that you’re adjusting to the catheter this quickly. Spring is around the corner.

Just do the right procedure when it comes to catheterizing. Make sure you are hygienic and use lube correctly.

No @labratmat i never tried ketamine, i think it’s an old damage, i had a lot of urological issues when i was a kid.

Yes and thanks @TheFountainPen - i adjusted pretty quick, but i feel more vulnerable now and i of course still have some worries now and then.

And yes @77nick77 - hygiene is crucial, that has never been a problem for me, and if i have to use a catheter outside my flat i will have a hand sanitizer with me.

Thanks @everhopeful

Take care of you bladder out there.

I’m glad to see you’re handling it so well. You’ll get used to it in no time. And after awhile your bladder will start to feel much better

Thanks @anon92321969 I felt an immediate relief when I emptied my bladder for the first time monday. For years I have known something was wrong with my bladder and i felt bloated, so at least that’s gone… Maybe i can even go on a hike when i get used to use it.

I plan a small hike in the spring where i want to use my catheter outside, just so i know it’s possible

man, what a great attitude you have…I had urinary problems due to my old age problem of enlarged prostate…I’m on meds for it…no catheter needed thank goodness…I would be sad …I’m glad you are adjusting.

Thanks jukebox - oh yes, my older brother told me once when i was too young to understand “when men above 50 take a piss, it’s not the same joy as when we were young.”

I have been neglecting my bladder issues for far too long and glad it came to some kind of solution, and as long as i’m not having a stationary catheter dangling from my … (in denmark we call the male genitals for “the noble parts”) I think I can live with it.

I just have momentary bouts of sorrow, loss and a feeling of vulnerability.

Glad you can cope your prostata with meds.

I call it the little general. I used to call it the little major but I had to promote it after Doreen Di`marco.

I’m so sorry you are going through this. You are a very strong person not to let it overwhelm you.

LOL @jukebox - Denmark is a very little independent country. Together with Sweden, Norway and Finland we call our region “Scandinavia.”

If I have to be honest, it’s not a particularly pretty country compared to Norway for example, very flat, but in the spring and summer it’s got a certain rural charm.

Thanks @sweetpotatocasserole - i had no choice to find some strength, i hope it lasts.
