I am new here
And I’m curious if anybody here knows of the best alternatives to antipsychotic medication…
And does anybody have experience recovering from schizophrenia with a healthy life style?
Any help and input would be appreciated
Hi, welcome to the forum.
No natural substance has antipsychotic properties unfortunately.
I tried a lot of things and the only thing that worked was antipsychotics
Welcome to the forum. Tell us a little about yourself.
I am a 75 year old woman and live in an adult foster care home. I have good times and bad times and work to keep it all in perspective.
I hope you find out some good things about the forum as you grow along.
Orange juice, calm music, and watching football works for me lol, it different for everyone, I’d say just find what relaxes you
This is a pro meds forum. We believe supplements and a healthy lifestyle compliment antipsychotic use.
Lteanin, passionflower, tea has anti anxiety effect.
I believe antipsychotics are first choice
It depends on your symtoms though
I like calming medicine
I feel like I got really bad anger issues
And the littlest things irritate me so much
And the anger stays with me the whole day it feels like
Anybody feels this way?
Yeah. Yoga helped me a lot with controlling my irritability. The most important part is the breathing exercises.
I will try that
How well did those two worked for you?
How about anger management
I was what things have real research in working for anger
The real key to anger management is accepting that you’re responsible for your own actions at all times. Even when you want to rage, you need to make sure you don’t hurt others with your words or actions. There are all kinds of coping skills, but they all rely on you taking personal responsibility for your effect on the world around you.
Hi @Themoonshinemaras! I remember you from the family forum.
I think after a certain point natural medicine can’t do much for truly intractable problems that take a long time to heal. I’d strongly recommend an antipsychotic or mood stabilizer for the anger issues.
I take Haldol at 2 mg a day, and it takes the edge off the “crazy narrative”, along with taking D.E.N.
Every day is a little bit more recovery.
Need antipsychotics. Maybe indefinitely. Makes you sleepy though.
I’d rather have a 12 hour day in normalcy than a 16 hour day fighting the crazy ■■■■■■■■ narrative.
There are a lot of things that have helped me. Most recently, getting some much needed hearing aids let me figure out that some of the whispery hallucinations that I thought I was having were actually background noise that I just couldn’t really hear. I still get some whispers, but not nearly as many as I thought.
Eating whole food and not processed junk and sugar has also made a massive impact on my mental health. My meds and just life in general used to make me exhausted all the time and I still had severe chronic insomnia, but eating only whole foods really really helped with anxiety, irritability, energy, and sleep quality.
CBD oil (from a legitimate lab tested source, not a gas station) also helped a ton with sleep and anxiety. And anxiety is tied into so many things for me, so it really helps to just use a bit when I’m stressed or the paranoia is getting to me.
My anxiety shows as anger outbursts. Might try things to improve your anxiety and see if that helps. Since my anxiety is under control I’m pretty much never angry anymore. It’s wonderful.
The AP really does help with that, too, though.
Thanks @LED
