i get bad pain in my back from standing. i read gaining weight can cause a curve in the lower spine. and i think this is true, when i lost weight on geodon my back was much better. from my progress pics i could tell a different in my back shape from being overweight to at a healthy weight. now i am at a even higher weight being back on olanzapine and i rarely even stand. i stood for a couple hours at a concert and my back stiffened up so bad that when i tried to clap i got sharp bain and back almost went out
Sounds like it’s time to start an exercise regimen. Start easy with daily walks. Then add exercises to that as you get stronger
i do a decent amount of exercise lately playing physically demanding games and boxing in vr 4-5 days a week for at around an hour each time. i dont get pain when walking or moving, just from standing when my spine is in one position
Hmm. Maybe you need imaging of your spine. That’s what I’d do. I’d ask my dr to get some imaging to see what’s wrong and what treatment will help
I’ve gained 2 stone on Olanzapine. Coming off that trash tomorrow.
Aps have so many side effects. I think Scientists need to find a new solution. Aps should only be given when one has a psychotic episode; where there is likely d2 hyper activity. When the episode is over I’m sure the dopamine pathway returns to normal.
i gained 170 lbs (12 stone). i want to come off it and i have in the past but i always go back on it because other meds dont seem to work as well
Christ almighty that is so much weight gained! I would be so depressed if I ever gained that much.
Hope you are able to lose weight or find a med alternative.
I might add that weight training is great for weight loss; extra muscle mass requires more calorie expenditure so eating more food (even junk) won’t cause fat gain. That’s only if you’re training right though.
yea it is quite depressing, i originally was skinny then went on olanzapine and went up to 240 lbs, switched to geodon and went down to 180lbs but had heart issues and mood instability, soon as i got back on olanzapine i gained like 20 lbs a month uuntil i reached 355, then i went on invega and dropped to 290, now back on olanzapine again and weigh 330. it sucks but i mainly keep ending up back on it due to the feeling of impending doom and crippling anxiety and lack of sleep on other meds
I wish i could tolerate drugs like abilify latuda or geodon. Only the fattening meds seem to work. I was 160 skinny my whole life now im 300 after aps. I worked out for years in the beginning but it did nothing. I would have to be a triathalon runner or something
I hope you and me both find a solution
Been reading a lot of news on new weight loss medications that are suppose to be game changers.
Not sure if these will be able to help or safe for the SZ community.
I am moderately overweight on Geodon/Latuda.
But had much more weight problems on Seroquel.
interesting eli lilly is the same company that makes olanzapine LOL. they fatten us up with cheap olanzapine then make expensive meds to counteract the weight
I’m sorry about your back. I recommend buying a back brace off Amazon. They are pretty cheap and wear it when you are awake. Also, I recommend a chiropractor or acupuncture. I think it would help.
I’ve read that back braces weaken back muscles over time. I bought one to stop slouching in my office chair.
If the brace corrects the posture, then the back muscles won’t be used naturally to correct posture, if that makes sense.
I have back pain sometimes as I am 300+lb but I recently bought a Vesa mount for my pc monitor and now I can move the monitor in all directions to minimize backpain.
That is a myth. The only way that could happen is if you wear it and then lie in bed all day. You are fine, if you use it and do your normal exercises and activities. This website from an arthritis site explains it better than I can. Hope it helps. If it provides support so that you can be active, lose weight through activity, that’s a huge plus.
This is strange. I have seen many people with a lot of weight that don’t have this problem. Are you sure it is because of weight gain?
I know a higher weight can contribute to an existing problem. But, that is not to say that weight gain is the cause of that problem?
I went to a type of back doctor that is not supported by mainstream medicine, and his approach seems to have resolved a longstanding issue I had with my posture.
My back troubles are 10 fold because im 300 pounds now
I lost all my extra weight on generic prolixin…fluphenazine.
Oddly enough I experience some back pain while both gaining and losing weight. I now believe the spine always makes adjustments according to weight change, no matter which direction on the scale that your going.
