Attempting a full-time job

I applied to a job today, and I thought it would just be another part-time gig, but turns out they have full-time need, and it’s a job I think I can actually do (i.e. housekeeping). I haven’t worked a full-time job since I was 21 years old, and I’m now 27. I honestly haven’t had the confidence to even apply for anything more than ~20 hours a week in years. I’m on disability, and I don’t know how this will affect it if I get the job, but it’s always been the end goal to get off disability at some point, so I guess now is as good a time as any.

Thoughts?

Good luck with it. I know I wouldn’t be able, but it’s encouraging to see someone who might be able. It gives me some hope.

If you can do it and be healthy and happy doing it, I’d say go for it and good luck!

Best of luck. Even though I don’t have disability from what I read you can earn something like around 1000 dollars and still be okay. You should probably double check that but you can work part time. I’m still trying to get a job. Job market is tough.

Good luck on your new job, I work full time for years, stress pushes me over the edge. Hopefully you can work at a pace that will not stress you to much.

I’ve worked for most of the last 35 years. I’ve also been on SSDI for the last 35 or 36 years. My SSDI has always been about $800 or $900 a month but I could only earn about $700 to keep it. I wernt through all the trial work periods and all that stuff. But starting about 3 or 4 years ago, Social Security told me that I can now earn up to about $ 1100 a month for the rest of my life and I can still keep my SSDI. They will review me every couple of years to see if I’m still disabled but even though my symptoms have lessened dramatically over the years, I think I will still be disabled until I die.

Catchme it is good that you are planning to be off the disability. Keep it up dude!

That’s awesome! I work two PT jobs that add up to five days/week, but honestly I don’t think I could handle doing either job FT, even if I didn’t have the other. I know you can work PT and earn up to a certain amount and keep disability, but I’m pretty sure they have a trial period during which you can attempt to work/earn more, to see if you can handle it. I think it’s three months, something like that. If you feel ready to work and can get off of disability, I say go for it!

Good Luck. Working full time have helped me be more happy and active. I sometimes get tired but it is a good way to stay happy and active.

Yeah, it’s kind of something I’m starting to accept that I’ll probably be disabled to some degree for the rest of my life. It’s not what I imagined for myself, but I’ve already grieved all the things I can’t do, so I’m not hurting about it as much as I might otherwise.
