Medicare pays for me to have my toenails clipped every two months at the podiatrist. I have a bad back and bending down to clip my toenails cause a lot of pain and I heard of this service so I take advantage of it. About two years ago my podiatrist pulled my big toenail completely off in a procedure (on purpose). The reason he pulled it off was I had worn a pair of shoes that had bent my toenail so it had pulled up off my toe and it was painful so he yanked it completely off, it took about 8 months for a new to grow in but it grew back ingrown-even though he had promised it wouldn’t.
Now my toe gets sore from the nail digging in and today he dug the nail out of my toe. It was extremely painful. he said it’s only going to get worse and I’ll need him to numb my toe up and slice away the part that’s digging in and put acid on the toe so the nail doesn’t grow back. I’m not looking forward to this, last time he gave me the shots to numb my toe it hurt like hell. Just another thing to worry about.
Call them up and ask them about it I guess. I was already seeing my podiatrist for other issues when I found out about this service so it was easy for him to add on this service.
Maybe go online and find a nearby podiatrist and ask him if he will cut your toenails and bill Medicare.
I think the feet have some sensitive nerves or something. A few years ago I had an ingrown toenail similar to your procedure the doctor numbed my toe with an injection before digging out the nail. One thing I noticed is that the needle he injected me with must have struck some nerve ending or I don’t know what because after the numbing effect wore off I could feel some weird feeling when I stepped with that foot around the lower ankle area. It took what seemed like a year for it to get back to normal. It didn’t exactly hurt but there was always some discomfort afterwards for about a year. Anyway the point is, I wish you well and hope your experience is better than mine.
