Interested in what others with SZ/psychosis are like. When I was younger I used to buy a lot of stuff second hand from car boot sales, but I think I am more in the middle now

But today I got rid of all my DVDs, CDs, Xbox Games, books and clothes that don’t fit any more

Maybe I will be less of a collector of stuff now?

What about you?

I don’t have much stuff.

Both of my parents are 10s.

I think I’m neutral? I like new things, but I also get rid of old things that I don’t really use anymore. I have too much s**t, but I make sure everything has a place, like organized in the closet. If there’s no room for it to be stored neatly somewhere, I get rid of it.

Mine comes from past trauma. I voted 3.

When I was with my ex husband, I wanted out way before I got out. I made it a rule never to own more personal possessions than would fit in one trip with my Toyota Corolla, and that included Shmookitty and her gear in the front seat.

I’m happy in life now, so have a bit more stuff, but old habits are hard to break. If i have too much stuff, I get anxious, even though my divorce was 21 years ago.

I’m a lot closer to mininimalist but would like to be more neutral. Got to find a balance so you don’t amass too much junk or sell/ giveaway something you’ll need later.

Sorry you went through that @anon39736208 - sounds like a really bad time for you

But I am glad you’re happy now.

I know what you mean about stuff that happened a long time ago still having affect so long after

Guess we need to not to repeat the same mistakes, but the anxiety side of it can be a tough one to deal with

Sorry if I got you to think about past things that were not good

My mom’s a hoarder being in her house makes me super anxious with all the clutter like I can’t breathe.

I have to have space in my own place just things I need to survive clean and tidy.

I lean towards minimalist. I like to get rid of old junk and replace it with a smaller number of new things.

I have a lot of electronics and CDs and books. Don’t think I could part with most of these.

My house is full enough. When i got my disability back pay i splurged on some things and bought some things i needed too, now im satisfied. Im actually considering going through and getting rid of some of my older stuff because my closets have boxes of stuff i dont use anymore.

@Joker Not at all! I looked at it as a lovely reminder that I’m free! Relatively speaking anyway, I’m severely agoraphobic, and part of it is because he found me on another site a few years ago, and clearly is not over it. I hallucinated him a few times when I first moved to this city, so I still get terrified I’ll bump into him if I leave the house. Him, plus one ex boyfriend who turned into a stalker, plus my childhood abuser.

I don’t mind this topic at all, I’m actually very interested in it too! My husband will still tell me he’s really happy when I mix my stuff with his. He knows what a big deal that is in my world.

I’ve known a true hoarder, a 10 on your list. I didn’t know how to deal with being in her house when we were friends. Her place made me have panic attacks!

Good on ya clearing some space. Now that all my books are on Kindle, that helps a lot!

I’m slowly de-stuffing as I call it. I’m tired of having too much to move and I don’t want my daughter to deal with the mountain of crap my wife and I have been dealing with as her aged relatives abandon their homes. I’m making progress.

I’m mostly a minimalist as my mom was a hoarder, the kind you see ā€œProfessional Organizersā€ cleaning up on TV. After my mom started hoarding cats, Animal Control brought her up under felony animal abuse charges. My cousin from Florida came and cleaned her house out. The cats went to the Humane Society.

Thanks for all your comments and votes

Interesting to see.

I was thinking of going completely nuclear on my stuff, but I think a small step in the right direction has been made

What sways me is that a lot of people are middle ground on this, and there are a few outliers

I think I’m a hoarder but I’m not as bad as those people you see on the show, Hoarders.

I just always feel the urge to have more stuff.

I voted an ā€˜8.’

Well, I had one pet cat and was happy with just him. My mom wouldn’t stop collecting cats.

There was this bag lying against the wall in the clubhouse we go to. It stayed there a few weeks, and one day I checked to see what was in it. There were three brand new pairs of Wrangler jeans in it. They fit me perfectly. They’re hanging in my closet right now.
