Are my meds safe to combine with Sarcosine?

I take:

Zyprexa 15mg
Nardil 90mg
Tegretol 200mg bid
Catapres 0.1mg bid

I tried Sarcosine a few weeks ago when I was about 4/5 weeks into the Nardil and had just recently switched to vaping (so my Zyprexa blood levels changed like a dose increase) and I jumped up the Sarcosine from 1g to 2g a day after just a few days on it and after about a week and a half it blew up in my face super hard and caused terrible anxiety and agitation. But, now that I’m past the 8 week point on my Nardil (and which I still seem to be experiencing increasing effects from) and about three weeks without smoking on the Zyprexa, I qm actually pretty sedated a lot of the time so I figured maybe I coild tolerate the activation of a 1g/d dose of Sarcosine and it would help me balance back out.

What do you guys think? The Sarcosine, at least for the first week, was sharpening my cognition, increasing my range of context (I could follow videos/shows better and had better reading comprehension), was improving my theory of mind skills allowing me to put myself into other’s shoes intuitively and feel more empathy and causing me to take things like lyrics less literally and interpret them more naturally, my senses started to heighten, I could “feel” music and words more, colors became more vibrant and things were clearer, I could pick up on small sounds better, feel the air on my skin more, my apathy decreased and my drive went up and I started cleaning and keeping on top of garbage and dishes and brushing my teeth regularly, I even vacuumed and tidied up the living room. I hope I can tolerate it somehow, even if it needs to be some stupid tiny dose like 500mg/d because I really need help with these negative symptoms and cognitive impairments. I used to take Clozaril but I can’t get back on it because my clinic thought it was overkill and pulled it. Jerks. They never even assessed my condition on it, just NOPEd.

I suggest calling your doctor and asking him/her.

I asked an inpatient doctor and my last psych nurse about it and they didn’t know what it was. And both had a habit of ignoring/disrespecting me so I doubt they would have even bothered looking it up. I eventually wound up filing a complaint against the latter.

To be honest, i don’t know that much about Sarcosine. However, seeing as you had some good results on it, maybe you could try it again but at a really lose dose just to see how you tolerate it first. Then slowly titrate up to the recommended dose if you don’t have any side effects from it. It is a pity that you can’t ask your pdoc about it. Would have thought they would have known about it. Also, good for you with your efforts to quit smoking. It is such a hard thing to do (took my mum a couple of years to kick the habit for good). Keep up the good work! :hugs:

Thanks. I think there may be some kind of additive effect on top of Nardil’s impact on glycine/glutamate happening here that is potentiating the Sarcosine. I need to look into it a bit more. I know Nardil has some kind of effect on glutamate/glycine but I’m still uncertain what kind it is.

FOUND IT!

The role of ALA in the CNS or its possible involvement in the etiology of anxiety disorders is not yet well addressed in the anxiety disorders literature, despite its metabolic relationship to lactate. ALA, like glycine. has
been shown to be a CO-agonist at NMDA excitatory amino acid receptors. although it has a weaker effect than glycine (Thomson. 1989) and is considered to be an inhibitory neurotransmitter (Cooper et al… 1991).

Nardil increases ALA and inhibits its transaminase as well. This is probably why one of Nardil’s side effects in Schizophrenic people is over-excitation. I probably just need an eensy dose of Sarcosine for that extra push. Sarcosine is N-methyl glycine afterall.

Sarcosine hasn’t really been studied enough to answer that. They think it’s safe but no one really knows for sure.dont expect a Dr. To know what it is anyway.

I think I’m the first person I’ve seen online put two and two together on this.

:sunglasses:

That also means that Nardil could be useful for negative and cognitive symptoms itself. Or for Schizoaffective Disorder — Depression Type.
