Are injections better than pills? More effective?

Hello. I’ve been advised to go on injections in the past but I am not on a CTO anymore so I opted to take pills.

I’m on zyprexa and another AP pill currently. I struggle with schizophrenia symptoms so I was wondering if injections are more effective than pills?

I would want to do Invega injection maybe because I hear the zyprexa one is trickier/has issues.

I don’t know if my psych np administers injections, can a person do it on themselves or have a family member? I also worry about it wearing off towards the time of next injection.

No. It should be done by someone who knows what they’re doing.

I get the impression that actually happens from people on here.

They prevent relapses in people who can’t manage to take a pill everyday for whatever reason.

Injections are better if you’re forgetful. Otherwise a med is a med is a med. It’s just how it’s delivered that’s different.

I’m on Olanzapine pills and would hate to have the injection. In this country they have to get a court order to give it to you if you refuse.

Thank you all for the good information. I will keep taking my pills and not go on injections. I rarely forget them.

I hate taking my CTO enforced injections so I’m in the process of refusing them. Hopefully they’ll listen to my pleas and let me move onto pills which I’ll be compliant in taking

I strongly advise to stay on pills cause of the stigma involved with injections. You are more in control of your medication with tablets/pills

I tried refusing the CTO @IceCat and they were going to put me in the hospital against my will. I value my freedom so I did what they wanted.

Now I’m off CTO. I’m doing ok most of the time. My meds aren’t perfect but they prevent severe schizophrenia symptoms and thus prevent more hospitalizations. I just had already wasted so much precious time in hospitals already that it wasn’t worth it.

I am not trying to scare you or worry you. I just want you to know what could possibly happen because I’ve been there. I understand.

I wish you good luck and the best.

I get stigma when I fill my meds and also if I have to take them in front of other people. I’ve been judged harshly and stigma is real for this illness pills or injections. I just don’t understand why anyone would treat us like this for having schizophrenia.

Because of the violence sick people apply refusing taking medication and trust doctors. I don’t know how to get a clear NO, I DON’T WANT THAT across. It’s difficult to set boundaries in a ward surrounded by mental health nurses backed up with security guards doing this kind of practices. Pushing people into violence who state clearly they don’t want medication unless you have to join a religious group refusing medication. Nazis in their purest actions.

Yes I understand that’s risk. But I’m kinda at the point where I hate the high dose injection they give me so much that I will risk being re-hospitalised. Hopefully they will agree to switch to pills or at least lower the dose, I would accept 200mg Aripiprazole or 20mg Flupentixol monthly
