for high prolactin and low sex drive because of high prolactin?
I recently started 3000 mgs 5-6 days ago. No effect on sex drive so far.

I take 2000mg, 3000 sounds like a whole lot!
I plan on eliminating it since I’m also on Mounjaro and my blood sugar levels are controlled
To sum up, this study shows that metformin slightly reduces elevated prolactin levels in patients chronically treated with bromocriptine. This effect, correlating weakly with metabolic effects of bromocriptine, suggests that metformin may be useful in the management of hyperprolactinaemic patients with coexisting glucose metabolism disturbances already receiving dopamine agonist therapy.
I am taking it for weight gain, but this dose of 3000 is really for its prolactin-lowering effect. It moderately lowers prolactin, so I am hoping it can moderately lower mine as well.
Yeah my prolactin level is higher than normal but in the lower range
My prolactin is around 30 which means it is moderately high so I think Metformin can help.
I am already taking Abilify 20 mgs with Amisulpride (650 mgs). And, it is still around 30 and it is affecting my sex drive negatively (it is a lot lower now, like 50 percent lower or even more).
Yeah, you shouldn’t stop it then, you should increase the Metformin to 2500-3000.
Read the research. There is plenty of it suggesting that Metformin helps lower prolactin moderately.
I think that my prolactin level was either 23 or 25, not sure
Is it causing you any symptoms like a lower sex drive?
I mean my sex drive is a bit lower but I do have low testosterone levels
Interesting. Doesn’t increased prolactin lower testosterone as well?
Yes I think it does
I wouldn’t stop the metformin if I were you. Stopping Metformin may further lower the sex drive.
You should consult your doctor regarding lowering it in my opinion.
Yeah I’ll see
Thanks
I’ve been on metformin for years. It prevents a lot of cancers. But the thing that sucks about it is the diarrhea.
Do you know which cancers it helps prevent? @2Waynez
I take 2,000 mg per se. I don’t have high prolactin levels though.
I’m hoping to get off it
No, my doctor told me it prevents a good amount of cancers
Yes it’s supposed to have a lot of positive health benefits other than glucose control
