I am a big fan. I must have seen him 5 or 6 times live
I didn’t even know he had solo work.
I’ll have to check it out!
It’s pretty different from the pixies sometimes. The albums definitely get better with repeated listening.
Ps I love when I find a new artist who had already put out an extensive back catalogue!
Is Frank Black’s solo stuff kinda more experimental?
Do you like the singer of Husker Du’s solo material, J-Bob?
Yeah I have a few bob mould albums. My fave of his post husker du was when he was in Sugar.
Frank black solo stuff is sometimes a bit mellower than the pixies - like kinda close to country on some albums
Oh I love the group Sugar!
I only remember their radio hits. But I always thought Bob Mould was spot on with that group.
That’s interesting about Frank Black’s solo work. I like a little country, so I might dig it.
Did you hear that bob mould took a sabbatical from music to write plots for WWE pro wrestling!?
@Daze is a big fan too and has his biography
LOL!
I did hear about that!
I think that’s awesome.
ha, yeah, that really threw me for a loop as I was reading his bio,
no real hints in his earlier life.
I’m really trying to latch on to new alternative releases again on Public Radio programs. I try to buy local too. But no, I haven’t heard Frank Black new stuff.
I still buy CDs (unfortunately from amazon though). I heard a lot of smaller bands make no money from Spotify so I like to support them by buying their CDs
@anon65600981 you a husker du/bob mould fan?
Yeah, I had to get a new phone and never got Spotify again on this new one. I only really used it for electronic dance music.
The only album I had by Husker Du was New Day Rising. And I had the Pixies 4AD EP and the first two albums.
But I’m really not familiar with either Bob Mould’s or Frank Black’s solo stuff and projects. I’d probably like some of their stuff, but I just haven’t gotten around to exploring it.
Almost every band I like has a fair amount of material I don’t care about. Very few bands have a strong enough track record to where I can say I like all of their stuff.
@rogueone I remember you are a big pixies fan. You ever get into frank blacks solo stuff?
Hey matey…yeah don’t mind it. The first one was pretty good with Los Angeles and saw him live back in that era. Bob Mould’s stuff is amazing. Workbook a fantastic album. The distillation of Mould retreating to the hills for 6 months then writing a record. Both great songwriters and from great bands.
Yeah, he wrote that one when he was mostly alone on a farm
after a break-up. Got screwed over in money for it.
