Anyone here also on the ASD

I was found to have Schizophrenia about 4-5 years ago. Now I am been tested for ASD.
I am a very quiet person who doses not mix too ready.
Is that likely be caused by my Schizophrenia or Asperger/Autism?

Being quiet is a negative symptom of schizophrenia, so is social withdrawal. Be sure to tell the assessors you have sz and it affects you socially. You would not want them to get confused about it.

I think it might be due to either , and that if you have both that could exacerbate it. For me the things you’ve mentioned predated overt mental health symptoms by many years.

I got my confirmation of Asperger’s syndrome(dx still used in the UK) on Monday. I scored 3 for social communication and 5 for social interaction on the ADOS-2. http://catamongstwolves.com/ados-2-test/ gives the cut off scores for module 4(which I did) . In DSM terms I’d probably be level 1 in terms of severity of symptoms , but comorbidity has an added negative effect on how well I,or another person, functions .(Anxiety, probable dyspraxia, executive functioning difficulties, probable learning difficulty, probable NVLD(hard to get a dx in UK) schizophrenia) .

My withdrawing seems to exist from about 7 year old. Now I am 57. I hope to get a diagnosis from the self tests I was asked to do. I am also a member of Mensa.

I think if you’re intelligent and good at masking symptoms that could result in ASD being overlooked for many years.

I don’t think many Psychologists here in Australia would have heard of Asperger or Autism in the late 1962’s

If I’m right Asperger’s wasn’t formally a diagnosis till 1994 . Back in 1962, when I was 5, autism was restricted to severe/very severe cases . I had definite difficulties in my school years(1961-1975) with reports of problems , ie disorganised, messy, poor at drawing and handwriting, poor coordination . I also had obvious social problems . However the dots were never joined together. That was very much the way of things for those of us with average or above intelligence. Then if you come under the psychiatric system there’s a tendency for things to be seen through the lens of having a mental health condition, and it takes a good mental health professional/pdoc to break away from such thinking.

I might or might not have autism. I proposed it to my current doctor and they suspect i have traits, but not fullblown autism. Another psychiatrist thought i had aspergers. They never mentioned it before i did though, they thought i was being difficult on purpose. Im not sure about the asd.

I think both sz and autism (and add too) can cause similar issues.

I will find out on Thursday. I suspect that I will be diagnosed withe Autism traits but not full blown Autism.

I got the letter stating I had Asperger’s syndrome on the 20th May. Waiting for the result had me second guessing a lot .

There is atypical autism and US equivalent PDD-NOS (which has been replaced by ASD).

I was slightly wrong. I was diagnosed with Autism level 2.

Yes, I have very mild autism. I rock when I’m uncomfortable, especially in a large group of people and hardly make eye contact.
