So my psychiatrist put me on Metformin to try and combat the blood sugar issues with Zyprexa, with the ultimate goal of reducing the weight gain side effect. Well last night I got up in the middle of the night to use the restroom and I was standing in front of the sink getting a glass of water and I passed out. Woke up on the bathroom floor feeling completely sick and light headed. I managed to get my blood sugars up and went back to bed and I was fine other than banged up from collapsing onto my bathtub and the edge of my counter.
Has anyone else had this problem while on Metformin? I’m at least assuming I passed out from low blood sugars, I’m at a loss of what to do because I made sure to eat when I take it and I still passed out.
I agree with @Wave, i would speak to your doctor about this. I work as a nurse and look after many people with diabetes, and generally speaking Metformin is one of the safest drugs you can prescribe because you don’t have the same risks of hypoglycaemia as you do with insulin and some other medications. You may have had a bad reaction to it, either way you need to talk about the fainting with your doctor. It is an normal reaction to have.
