Alright, I closed the other thread because of how rude and paranoid it was. I’m upset that anyone thinks we’d allow someone to come on and be abusive…then I remember some recent things.

So, I am reopening, BUT keep it civil and don’t make this all paranoid.

  1. @Voithos is a regular member. Not a newbie.

  2. They have admin approval and were practically begged by me personally to join the team.

  3. They are a type of junior mod and must answer to us other mods. Their suspensions are limited to 1 day at a time.

  4. They cannot perma-ban. That particular function is for the worst offenders and is debated for a long time among all mods. The only instant permabans are for criminal behaviors such as pedophilia.

So, instead of speculation, use this thread to speak to them directly. Ask questions. Ask about mod stuff.

And I’m sorry for being a B* on the original thread. I just woke up and was irate.

I’d like to know why this person is allowed another account.

I see what you’re saying that it was approved,

But why?

I’m a regular member and I found it a little upsetting the rules were disregarded for this person and kind of blatantly.

I’m not trying to start trouble.

It’s just very odd.

The honest answer is that they agreed to help only if no one knew who they were.

Fyi, mods often have a second account. We use it to see how the forum looks as a regular user. So that part isn’t new.

I don’t really see why it’s a big deal. I haven’t been here for a long time though.
Is it a question of liability?
Like do people feel uncomfortable with an anonymous mod because they can’t be held accountable?
I don’t really see it that way.

I think mods should be and are members that we know and respect.

I’m not saying this person isn’t.

I’m just saying we wouldn’t know.

And as a regular member I don’t like the situation.

I’m sorry you don’t like it. Personally, I’d be happier with them not being anonymous. But it isn’t my call and I know why.

It was just an odd situation we were not prepared for and knew little about.

I’ll be real, the situation we found ourselves in was not…ideal nor comfortable. We’d just had a situation we hadn’t had to deal with before as staff. So we have modified our approach with a junior mod position as a helper.

Just to answer your question.

I’m upset because I don’t like seeing authority figures bend the rules.

I don’t like my authority figures to be shadowy.

I love this forum and think it’s a great place.

Been here an embarrassing amount of time.

I just had questions about the situation and I feel the mods are answering them.

I suspect that I know who this anonymous moderator is and they are an outstanding member.
I will never divulge who this person is.
(But I could be wrong as to their identity)

All I was trying to say is I get confused with name changes, anonymising accounts etc

More a general point

However, not everyone I guess has the same feeling of how private or public this place is

Pretty sure no one in their right mind would find this corner of the net unless they actively search for it

Whatever happens I hope that @Voithos is still allowed to be a member with this other account that may exist

Everyone needs support and I wouldn’t like the mods to not be able to use the site as regular members can

That’s the rub.

When you accept a moderator position, using the forum for support is no longer a viable option.

We are supposed to be stable and supportive.

Because we’d not take them on if not. Nor asked them.

I’ll take full responsibility on this. I personally asked and have asked repeatedly for them to over the past year.
