Alzheimer’s patient given stem cell therapy increases hippocampal volume from 5th to 48th percentile

Yes psychosis kills lots of brain cells, but i have been to traumatic brain injury groups and i’ve seen real brain damage from cell death. Maybe those here with cognitive problems may benefit from stem cells. What i have is severe anhedonia not cognitive decline. That’s why i said “MY problem” not everyone

how to undergo stem cell therapy

Well the only conventional use of stem cells in use so far is bone marrow transplants in leukemia. U can find experimental therapies such as this one tho. Also stemcells that can grow into neurons come from embryos so its unethical. Research is being done to figure out how to take adult’s cells and turn them into stem cells. They do this by genetically modifying the cells to make them behave like embryonic cells.

In the 1990s there was a fair amount of research with embryonic stem cells but they have fallen out of favor for most uses. Most stem cell therapies now use induced pluripotent stem cells which can be made from the patient’s own cells.

In this trial, they are using cells from the patient’s own fat.

This is currently an experimental procedure. I don’t know of any university or research hospital doing this in schizophrenia yet. Dr Lodge in Texas was doing it in rats but I have not heard of it progressing to humans.

There are some semi shady stem cell therapy clinics that have popped up around the world, but there are dangers there because you don’t really know what you are getting, and proper testing of the cells is also necessary to ensure they will become the type of cells that are desired, and not, for instance, fat cells, or cancer cells. So if this becomes an option, I would not consider it except at a reputable research hospital or university.

I think @SzAdmin said that rat sz in suspect for multiple reasons something about they dont know what sz in rats really looks like so they try to create sz in them and other stuff too. Imo sz might even be a human phenomena so rats might not even get it.

Its unlucky to be mentally ill…dibetes and aids have different hit medicinal option …they get treated effectively…but progress on mental health is slow…medicine takes a lot of time to come out…once they know biological and genetic causes of sz then there will be effective medicine coming our way…hoping for the best…

Or u can hope that something like min 101 comes out without a solid undestanding of why it should help lol . I’m hoping something new comes out before we know biological/genetic causes cuz i dont think we will know soon enough. My pdoc said she bets within 5 years there will be something new for sz.
