Alcohol and chefs: a real kitchen nightmare

@shutterbug I think you’ve been a chef. Does this ring true to you? My brother worked as a commis chef and a waiter before he got ill. He certainly did the drugs part, but I’m not sure about the drink.

I don’t think there was much of a drug problem but everyone definitely boozed, including me back in the day. I work in insurance these days and booze is a problem there, too. We’re not allowed to have any sort of staff function without the young 'uns turning it into a massive piss up. They won’t come unless there’s booze and lots of it. The older staff now avoid the staff Xmas party and quietly have our own.

Edit: I should mention I was abusing weed and uppers at the time if I’m being honest, was referring to most of my co-workers not being druggies. The article is relevant to my past behavior.

I worked in the restaurant business for a while, mainly as a waiter.

Drugs and booze were a problem back then.

But this was during the 1980’s

My brother worked in it in the 1980s . I’m not sure about the 1990s. I know from what he’s said the pay wasn’t too good.
