Heard it on the news today. Like a average AI chat bot uses 1Watt at the computer center where the servers are.
So by doing unnecessary AI queries we are wasting power.
1 watt is not much, but if 1 person does 10 queries in a day, that’s 10 watt. So a million users doing this would generate 10 million watts being used.
It’s why it’s being considered a boom for the economy (in a potentially fatal way) because all that investment isn’t guaranteed to produce anything. The way bad mortgages back in 2008 didn’t translate into home ownership but instead to failed payments I believe
Yup. Unfortunately, AI carries a heavy environmental caveat too.
Fossil fuel dependence, waste, and a massive reliance on sucking up local water supply to cool the systems
