A friend finally told me. It’s a Thai dish. Similar to pho but with a heartier broth. It comes in a variety of flavors but I like spicy so my friend told me that in that case I should definitely go with wasabi or “was”. So if you ever go to a Thai place and want something spicy and delicious just say “was updog”!! they’ll know what you mean.

I don’t know if you want me to ask what’s up dog or if you’re letting us in on the joke. This never works out for me in person. I’d always ask if people smell updog.
