Advice for your past self

Time-lapse 4-6 years ago or before your illness.

What advice would you give yourself? Now that you are smarter and wiser :grinning:

Really a great question!!!

There is REALLY nothing I could have done better regarding my illness. It has been SO much difficult but I never gave up and I have been very persevering and courageous. It is exactly what I had to do : to not give up… And wait for the miracle (antipsychotic) which take 12 years to come.

Do not experiment with marijuana and street drugs. You have a family history of mental illness.

Maybe:

Don’t get schizophrenia? Sort of seriously. I think, personally I always had the chance of getting it but a particularly stressful moment caused it to activate (Sort of like the reverse of an X-men super power) I got it fairly late compared to most schizophrenics so maybe if it hadn’t happened I wouldn’t be in this state. Also, I wouldn’t have pissed off someone important to me which I regret to this day. (Which I admit they were probably way more important to me than I was them but still)

But if I cant’ choose that then I’d go tell my teenage self ‘Hey quit being a dick.’

Don’t lose hope, and if you do, grow new, stronger hope back that acts like some kind of venus fly trap that eats everything that tries to tamper with your hope.

Don’t smoke that joint. Just that one. The one that changed your life. And seriously do shrooms have to grow so close to Banff? God those two years there were the deepest pit of hell and the most out of control happy I’ve ever been. I’m amazed I’m alive.

Reach out for help, let people know you’re struggling. Your symptoms aren’t just magically going to go away if you try to ignore them.

Stop studying for 10+ hours every day you idiot!!! Spending lots of time on something does not mean you are entitled to top grades. You actually need to be in a good mental state on the days of the exams too! No exam is more important than your health.

Also, the university you wanted to go to ended up giving you an unconditional offer but you made yourself too mentally ill to go. You put yourself under so much pressure and stress for no reason.
