SAN DIEGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–ACADIA Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ: ACAD), a biopharmaceutical company
focused on innovative treatments that address unmet medical needs in
central nervous system disorders, today announced the initiation of
ADVANCE, a Phase II study to evaluate pimavanserin for adjunctive
treatment in patients with negative symptoms of schizophrenia.
study show that about 40 to 50 percent of schizophrenia patients suffer from
prominent negative symptoms. There is currently no drug approved by the
U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of these negative
symptoms. As a selective serotonin inverse agonist (SSIA), pimavanserin
is a new class of antipsychotic medication with a distinct mechanism of
action targeting serotonergic 5-HT2A receptors while avoiding
activity at dopamine and other receptors commonly targeted by other
antipsychotics.
It may not be due to drug( just my opinion )…
If it helps larger % of people and proves it’s efficacy u shouldn’t hesitate to try it…!!!
Cuz i am bed ridden with SZ i would like to try something that benefits negative symptoms of SZ…
Here’s the opinion of one of the directors of the FDA
THE SAFETY RISK IS “SUBSTANTIAL”: First and foremost, Dr. Mathis’ Division Memorandum dated March 2nd to the Advisory Committee for their meeting last week on the 29th of March has one key sentence that says it all: “While the applicant (Acadia Pharmaceuticals) will present evidence that the treatment effect (using Pimavanserin) represents a clinically meaningful change, the Division’s medical officer will present his interpretation of the same data and reach a different conclusion.”
Lets see Ever tomorrow is my appointment with new pdoc …so far zyprexa is cool but i have gained 17kg out of it…!!! i have huge grudge over anti_psychotic cuz they only treats positive symptoms and here i am concerned about my negative and cognitive symptoms they are severe drugs don’t give damn about it…So lets see…
May be next month i will try abilify…!!!
Ineresting. I didn’t know that Pimavanserin would be good for negative symptoms. I tihought it just wouldn’t bring so many side effects. Maybe we can use this medication as off-label if it’s approved by FDA (and ANVISA in my case). I need a good med for negative symptoms too.
This is some bs that we have to wait for months on in, hoping for best but anticipating the worst. This one we could try in person if we had the connections.
It’s available now for Parkinson’s psychosis. I had a doctor that was willing to put me on it in lieu of my current antipsychotic but it was too damn expensive and he couldn’t guarantee that I wouldn’t relapse.
If you’ve got the extra money and the courage to take that risk then give it a try.
